I was speaking the other day with one of Braves’ recruits from Garinger and this is what he said:

‘ He told me I would only have to go to class on game days, but he didn’t tell me he would be there game days only too”

“ He promised me a new car...he gave me a 1985 Yugo with no AC. When I confronted him with this, he said, “ It is a new car...for you”

“ I reminded him that he promised me an H2..he said ‘ Oh’..and handed me a glass of water”

“He said he would give each player a new glove..so what did he give me..a fingers chopped golf glove..said ‘ use it to protect your hand’ “

“ Told me he had a scholarship to UNC..When I asked him how it was going he replied, ‘ great!!..you are lined up with UNCP’ I was a little disappointed but thought UNC-Pembroke would be okay. Braves said. ‘Pembroke?..I didn’t say Pembroke, I said UNCP—University @ Newark for Chinese People’ I was fuming. ‘ Braves, I ain’t no chinese person” He said, ‘ don’t worry about it, I told them you were a big Jackie Chan fan and loved their food’.

Braves promised me that he would line me up with a bunch of pretty women at the G...he introduced me to Candy, lil’lolita and Big Sheba. They were ok, but every time I asked them out for a date, they wanted to be paid up front.

I complained and complained to Braves about how he was dissing me...not livin’ up to what he said. I told him if he didn’t introduce me to a scout soon...I was leavin’.. he drove me up to the mountains towards Cherokee..stopped at Harrahs..said he would be gone for a couple of hours and left me with this guy named Chief...told me this guy was a scout a long time ago for the apache tribe.

That’s it ..I’m leavin’...and for those of you who Braves tries to charm...stay away...stay far away!!

    WHY?

This is supposed to be a forum for ALL those who follow and "love" the game of baseball! Still to this day wonder why people and schoools/ coaches/ teams are trashed??? The partial answer is that many of these so called baseball people have no understanding nor appreciation for the game, history, and tradition--- especially when it comes to HS baseball in Charlotte! Check out and do the research ARGUABLY there has been no better HS teams come out of c lotte with the wealth of talent that Garinger had in the 60's as well as Joe Tomancheck as their head coach! Awesome players like Gary Hill the Lemond brothers, Skippy Hull, Bill Selllers and the names go on and on! Have a clue....

    Re: WHY?

    Ahh...an intelligent reply!!!

One I don't agree with, but well thought out.

Garinger HS baseball is a problem, not only for them, but for all schools that play them. I started a thread looking for solutions to their situation, but most posters did not reply...either they didn't care or they had none to offer.

So, "O"...since you seem to be knowledgable about Garinger baseball, tell us what can be done to change a program where the school principal, students and community could care less. Where they can barely find enough players to field a team, while some of these other schools cut 30-40 talented people from their team with no other place they can play.

A baseball program so bad that their opponents bat opposite handed to keep the score down. That a player won't run out a groundball...that umpires will call phantom outs to keep the game in control. Tell me "o"..who benefits from that type of game? ABSOLUTLY no one...

You mentioned the "love" for the game. Well, O..this is a mockery of the game...one that should not be tolerated.

I have many times stated the appreciation and admiration for the kids that play at Garinger. They NEVER quit!!! But I have a big problem with the administration, CMS in particular, with allowing Garinger to continue to play HS baseball in it's current state. It's bad for the kids, the schools and the community.

If you have a solution to this problem....great!! Let's hear it

If your reply is to only state how great Garinger used to be...then save your breath and get a clue

    Point made.....

I agree with all that you have stated! Missed the other post??? In any case it all must begin with the CMS AD as well as the Super! So look what is/has been done?? hmm interesting no? Public education as well as athletics are to educate, and nurture student/athletes so they may be successful members and contributors to society yet look at what the TOP PAID people in the entire system are doing about it, or shall we say SIMPLY turning the other way? The answer I speculate is for the movers to start moving as welll as the shakers start shaking either way!? Hope this makes some sense, and believe me I wasn t accusing anyone of bashing the coach players etc... I respect THEIR love for the game as well as there eforts.... BOTTOM LINE? Dirty politics sense of disregard and looking the other way! Betcha someone in high places laugh about it? Otherwise if they were REAL educators they would put an end to it? On the other hand I DO think it is disrespecting the GAME by hitters turning around so as to make outs (think about it)!

Chief, I agree with you 99.999%. I do not think it would be right to take baseball away from the boys who want to play. But they cannot compete with the other teams. So maybe the answer would be for Garinger to field a JV team made up of all grades. Sort of like club baseball in college. Which would be a bigger hit to the egos of these young men who do try, who do give 100% every game not matter how lopsided the score.

    Just my $.02 worth.

Thanks guys for your replies. At least you have started the idea process...

What about allowing these players who were cut from some of the schools like Providence, South Meck or Myers Park an opportunity to try out for the Garinger team? They have no other options to continue to play HS baseball.

Not sure where you are heading with that, but let me say this. West Charlotte is a mirror to Garinger in it's make up and their one time Coach, Mike Shildt, has proven there are no barriers to produce a competitive team....it's a commitment

If you've followed any previous thread about Garinger, you know the players over there have always been treated with respect on the board. They give 100% every time they are on the field.

They don't have the depth of talent trying out that the other SW4A schools have, and we (collectively) can't figure out why these players won't show up.

Support for all forms of the athletic program comes from the Administration ... the top of the school. If there is a problem with the baseball program at Garinger, that's where it originates.

Chief posted some nice "humor" .... we've been kidding all spring about recruiting the top talent in the Charlotte area to transfer over to Garinger and surprise everyone.... with the school choice program, he just continued a previous line of "humor" ..... what's the big deal?????
