Breaking in a new glove

if all the above doesn't help

if you still can't catch with it, take the bat and pound your teammate who threw you the ball... now if that doesn't help, go to the store where you bought the glove and pound the guy that sold it to you. Still can't catch? Well, take your bat and get on a plane, go to where the glove was made (hope it ain't a mizzuno... this will get expensive!) and pound the heck out of the Company President!
If after all that and you still can't catch worth a darn don't worry! After all those swings of the bat you can DH!... you will have had plenty of practice.

 

Anyone ever tried freezing a glove for a couple of weeks with a ball in the pocket ??

An old and dear friend of mine who works for a major glove manufacturer put it simple....never apply anything to your glove or treatment to your glove that you would not put on your own skin Afterall, what is leather, but cow skin? While some processes do expedite the break-in process, they also do much to shorten the life of the glove...especially the laces.

Be careful with the shaving creme...if it contains alcohol, try another brand. Lanoline works well, vasoline used sparingly works wonders as well (note: key word sparingly and massaged in). Nokona actually sells a wooden mallet with one end the size of a baseball that you use to pound the pocket. Could be something fun for the kid to make in shop class for breaking gloves in!

 

I did this once and my glove hand got pruney everytime I wore it for about 4 months. I ended up having to wrap it up with a belt and put it in the dryer.

Shaviing cream is the ABSOLUTE best and if not lanolin based DO with aloe! This gets it done quick and try to stay ahway from the laces with it! Also as eaqrlier said tie in ONe or two balls where you want them or ONE softball and let sit for a two days at least!

Hot Glove

works very well. It will break your glove in very fast. But it will weaken the laces bigtime and cause it to wear out must faster. Rawlings glove oil works good. And shaving cream with lanolin. But then you have to use it alot. The best way to break in a glove is to play alot of catch with it. Ive always been a big believer that you should always have two gloves. The one that is broke in that you use in games and the one you are breaking in to replace the other one with.

Shaving cream with aloe works the best. Be sure to do the inside of the mitt as well. Oil and water do not mix, so as you sweat the oil rises to the top of the leather and is wiped away on your hands. That is why the insides crack so much when you use glove oil. The shaving cream will condition the leather like it does your face. I try to put some shaving cream in the pocket, along the back side, and the inside every four months or so.

Tying two balls in there when you are not playing catch does help give a deeper pocket.
