Whether it is poor choices of players to begin with or lack of a coaching ability to develop the ones he/she chose, the entire responsibility for this lies with the coaching and team management staff.

To constantly bring in new players to replace existing players is a failure as a coach.

    explain please

Not versed well on TB here, but a question: why are there not rules in place with these softball associations that prohibit bringing in "ringers"? Would that not bring better professionalism and integrity to the sport?

    AMEN TO THAT!

The measure of a coach should be about coaching his players to be the best they can be and not about COLLECTING good players.

HEY I GOT ONE BETTER THAN THAT !!!!

If you are good enough there is a way to get around having your super star on more than one roster...don't ask me how it's done, but coaches do it all the time..I mean not different organizations, but the same organization...:stirthepot:

My question is how do you keep from having to bring in players when this one will be here on this weekend and this one won't be able to play because of that......

How do you make it so that every player is there for every tournament and you don't have to bring in "extra" players?

    Just wondering..........

Guru suggestions......(glad to see you back. Always entertaining and enlightening)

Also not well versed but have same thought. Softball is a team game -rules or lack of rules should not enable it to be managed differently. Even something like minimum games played with team before player is eligible to play in a tourney, with the minimum increasing as the season progresses seems like it would be sensible? I know there are ways around any rule, but still seems the rules should be in place for the vast majority of teams that would follow them.

When we played 14u, we had 14 to 15 players. this was a butt load, and hard to get into every game, but we never ran out of players due to vacations, etc. now the mind set is to have no more than 12 players and this leads to shortages during the heavy vacation period. so it seems to me you have several choices, including the "too many players syndrome" or the "we only have nine for the weekend thing".

but most of the teams that have 12 or less, seem to be the teams that recruit players

:bike: Rollin' right along. We're a new team & are not playing any showcases, but this is what we did. Obtained vacation times from each family & planned our tournaments around that. Not saying we want pick up a player to play, but doing it this way lets us know who ain't gonna be there. One drawback is that it shoots the whole month of July when alot of the big tourneys are played. Might have to go a new route next year. I guess you could say "these are the ones we're playing in, please plan your vacations around that." Wonder how'd that work? Just my thoughts.
