Butler's Cousar is new baseball coach at Charlotte Latin

Charlotte Latin School Headmaster Arch McIntosh and Athletic Director Jimmy Broadway announce that Kim Cousar is Latin’s new head varsity baseball coach and P.E. teacher.

He comes to Latin from Butler High School in Matthews, where he has served as head baseball coach since the school was opened in 1997. Cousar also served at Butler as an assistant football coach and physical education instructor with an emphasis on health issues, weight training and conditioning. He previously served as the head baseball coach, assistant football coach, and physical education and biology instructor at Anson Senior High School.

Cousar, who is known for his strong relationships with students and players, was named the N.C. Baseball Coaches Association Region 6 4A Coach of the Year in 1991, 1999 and 2007. He was Conference Coach of the Year in 1985, 1986, 1988, 1992, 1999, 2002 and 2007. His teams’ overall record is more than 400 wins, nine conference championships and 20 appearances in state playoffs. He has garnered 22 winning seasons in his 26 years as a baseball coach.

A former associate scout for the Cincinnati Reds, Cousar also is the founder of Batter-up Baseball Camps and served as co-director of the intramural program at Gardner-Webb University and as an assistant coach on American Legion teams, including the N.C. Legion State Championship team in 1987. Cousar earned a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education with an endorsement in biology from Gardner-Webb University.

Congratulations Coach....a welcome surprise. I started to believe you would never leave Butler until you retired. You have a lot to offer Latin and they are fortunate to get you. Good luck next season.

    What is going on?

Coach Cousar will create a whole different environment at Latin. I am sure next spring will be an eye opener for the returning players. In addition to being an excellent coach he is a very nice guy.

My question though is what in the world is going on at Butler? In the last 10 months they have lost or fired their principal, girl's BB coach, Men's BB coach, football coach, baseball coach, and their area superintendent. Their interim football coach is already backing out of a scheduled games for next year. Always something strange at that place!

Good luck to Kim though in his new position. The SW4A crowd will miss his hard playing, never quit style.

Maybe just maybe, its CMS politics - just can't put their arms around something as good as Butler's successes in athletics have been the past few years. They want EQUALITY, so look for all scholls to have .500 records and the schools down east winning all of the hardware. CMS is destroying what has been a VERY good team of coaches and administrators. Just my opinion!

    Great guy

He was great with the players. I played for him when he was asst. coach in 82 at Anson Sr. (Bowman then). You felt you could go to him with anything and was a great buffer between players and the head coach.
