    WHY?

TJ21 and Diamond Fever - I agree that it was a tough decision, but I do NOT agree that it was the right decision. I and a whole lot of other folks (including some teammates) think he let them down. Yes, God forbid, he could have got hurt, but he could get hurt everytime he takes the mound. Does that stop him from pitching for South Caldwell next year or at the Aflac All-Star Game? I don't think so. As far as rest go, he had 3 full days. That was more than he had in game 3 of the HS Championship game, where he wanted the ball the next day. I realize there was no guarantees that Post 29 would have won even with him pitching, but I think you will agree that their best chance was with him on the mound. Nothing against the three kids that did pitch, but as everyone knows Madison is in a elite group. He did show some "committment" by staying, but was it a "FULL" committment. I am NOT "blaming" Madison (or anyone else) for the loss. I am just asking "WHY?". He did NOT skip pitching Game #2 of the AL Championship for the National AFLAC All-Star Game. If that were the case I would not be asking the question. He chose to skip pitching for some type of "showcase" event in Wilmington. He has been to similar events before and will be invited to attend similiar events in the future, that is why I am asking "WHY?". There is very little to gain, in my opinion (and we all know about opinions). THAT is the point I am making!!!!!!!!!! I totally agree that he and his family MUST look out for his future, but I (and a lot of other people including teammates) are just asking what he will gain by pitching at this "showcase" that a STATE Championship would not provide. He also would have had a excellent shot at being named MVP (2 wins, 4 HR's, etc.). All of which would look good on his "resume". As was stated before by one or both of you, baseball is a team game and just think of what Madison could have given his team (mates) if he would have taken the hill and helped them to victory, but he (or someone) choose not to! WHY?

Again congratulations to Morehead City and GOOD LUCK at the regionals. Thanks to POST 29 for a great season! WHAT A RIDE!

DME, with all respect, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I know there's probably some of his teammates who wished he could've pitched, but the reality is that it was just a difficult decision for him, and regardless of what he did, some would question him. Put yourself in his shoes, he couldn't win, because some folks would say he would be crazy to pass up pitching at his best ability in this national event. For his sake, he needed to be fresh going into the Aflac game. You ask what else can he gain,,,, its difficult for anyone to answer that now, but by participating and making himself more well-known nationwide, he is only helping himself.

This issue can be debated and we can argue his coming back to pitch on 3 days in Thomasville, or question his committment to his team til we're all blue in the face,,, and of course Caldwell is a better team with him on the mound, thats what made this such a more difficult decision for him. But instead of questioning the decision that he made, ultimately folks should be happy for this young man that he has this tremendous opportunity in front of him.

madison is not the post 29 team. their are 17 other players on that team so don,t hang the championship on his head. as you well know already he wasn't even supposed to stay but he kept on finding a way to stay and help support the team. I agree with what was said earlier, without his bat they may not even be their on tuesday. leave it all on the field.

Btw, one of our top 2 pitchers pulled a hamstring in Thomasville while simply running to 1stbase,,,, so its not silly to consider that he could've gotten injured. In fact, I distinctly remember that he got hit by a pitch while batting against us on Sunday night,,, so again, he certainly risked some things because he wanted to help his teammates as much as possible.

Also keep in mind that he skipped an invitation to the East Coast Pro Showcase "JUST SO" he could be with his teammates in Thomasville.

Thats all I'm going to say about it, except I wish him the best.

NC Baseball fan,,,,,, I said I was done with this topic, but I was the one who said "without his bat, Caldwell may not even be there on Tuesday".

Because that yungin hit 2 bombs against us in the winner's bracket finals to help Caldwell win a 11-10 ballgame. In fact, I'm quite sure that one of his bombs hasn't landed yet...:banginghe

    News Flash:

That ball landed at Hickory Airport about 30 minutes ago... with a stewardess. Because everyone who has seen Bull Durham will agree that anything that travels that high and that fast should have a stewardess...:thud:

I am not getting into this debate because it does land pretty close to home. I will say however that the kid just turned 17 years old on August 1st. I don't think for a second a 16 year old kid makes that decision alone. Therefore I don't think Madison Bumgarner is to blame for anything.

NC Baseball Fan,,,, that 2nd bomb he hit against us (Kannapolis) was absolutely the longest homerun I've ever witnessed "in person", and I witnessed just a few homeruns by some great hitters over the years. Not only did Madison hit that one over the leftfield LIGHTPOLE, but I honestly think that ball was still climbing. Honestly the only thing I could think to do when he hit that one, was just spit some baccer juice and say SOB.....:bowdown2:

Somebody later said they found that ball out on the highway, and (remember) I believe there was some business located between the leftfield wall and that highway...

The only good thing (for us) about that 2nd one, was that you guys only got one run for it,,,,,,, because believe me, if there ever was a 3-point shot in baseball, Madison shoulda got credit for one that day.

    Guys,

I'm gonna add my :twocents: worth. As an outsider looking in that has coached against Madison he is one of the most competitive, team oriented players I seen take the field...it's unfair to talk about him letting his team down.

We were faced with some of the same decisions regarding Ryan's future last year that Madison and his family are facing this year. Did we make all the right decisions....probably not. We tried to do what was best for Ryan's future while balancing and trying to do what was right for everyone else concerned.

Bottom line is Madison and his family are making decisions that can impact not only his baseball future but will also have huge impact on his life...it is easy to 2nd guess the decisions made...but trust me, until you are the ones making those decisons it is not as cut and dry as we make them sound on here.:twocents:
