Sounds like a great series, congrats to both teams.

Question, how are the 2 Caldwell players that got hit by the car, and will they be available to play by the time the state tournament rolls around? Thanks.

 

they seem to be ok...one had a hurt foot or ankle...the other was pushed out of the way, but the car still hit him in the hip area...downsouth was in the parking lot and knows more details on this accidental run over...one player was playing on a extremely swollen foot' but it was not broken...lucky somebody was not seriously hurt.

The best thing for those two guys is the fact they are resting and healing now. You know how baseball is in Caldwell Co and neither one wanted to miss a single game in the Gaston Braves series so I promise that they will playing in the tournament.

I am kinda leery on giving details on here like the players names. But there is a great story to tell here. One guy saved the other guy from serious injury or even worse. The bus was stopped at a crosswalk in the McDonalds in Belmont. I parked in a parking spot behind the bus talking to Coach Day (he had a heart procedure done earlier in the day and was not with the team) and never saw the actual impact. But a car saw the bus stopped and I guess tried to speed by it to the drive-thru before the players, coaches, etc could get in McDonalds.

Two of the players were first off the bus, and came around in front bus. The second of the two players saw the car not slowing down and shoved the first player to push him out of the way. The first player rolled up the corner of the hood and flew into an adjacent truck so one hip in the hood the other hip hit the adjacent truck. If he had not been been pushed, he would have hit square in the front of the car and this would have been alot worse. The player that shoved the other player when he extended to push the player, got his foot ran over.

Neither broke anything and the fact both played in the Gaston series after that is a miracle.

I swear that Caldwell County will do anything to keep Cherryville out of the state tournament. Lead 2-0 in the series and then loose three straight... I reckon if Cherryville gets thru Gaston (and at this time the series is tied at 1 each) I will be able to take Carolina man up on the Bologna sandwich!!!!!

 

you guys better make it to the state tournament...was looking forward to a Caldwell - Cherryville series but it wasn't to be. Caldwell missed out on a bunch of gate money with missing that series. Cherryville and Caldwell always bring the large crowd's as you know. Looking forward to the state tournament...see you at the park
