The 2008 Carolina Cardinals Classic included the largest number of teams ever. Eighty teams from 11 states and Canada participated in this tournament (and still there was a waiting list).

There were 200 tournament games and 18 scrimmage games scheduled. Rain on Friday cost the tournament only four games total and with one extra game played late on Sunday, 215 games were actually played. The tournament dodged a rain bullet on Saturday with only a sprinkle from what looked like it could turn into a possible monsoon.

There were 42 college coaches signed in (and of course there are always a few college coaches who attend but don’t sign in). Among the colleges represented were UNC, N.C. State, Marshall, Peace, UNC-Charlotte, UNC-Greensboro, Campbell, James Madison, Elon, Western Carolina, Lenoir Rhyne, Wingate, Gardner Webb, Brevard, Greensboro College, St. Andrews, Queens, Guilford, Belmont Abbey, Catawba, Pfeiffer, N.C. A&T, Chowan, North Carolina Central, N. C. Wesleyan, Meredith, Longwood, Methodist University, Presbyterian, Norfolk State University, Fayetteville State, Virginia Wesleyan, UVA-Wise, Pitt Community College, Lynchburg, Louisburg, and Virginia Intermont.

The addition of the brand new N.C. State softball stadium and the very nice Peace College softball facilities, along with the upgraded field at Worthdale Park just up the street from Walnut Creek, allowed the tournament to host an additional 18 teams which allowed approximately 250 additional players to perform before the college coaches in attendance. In total, there were more than 1,100 players participating in the Carolina Cardinals Classic.

The Cardinals appreciate the use of the NCSU and Peace College facilities to allow the tournament to include so many additional players. There were many serious conversations between college coaches and players after the players finished their last game of the tournament. Many college contacts were made and many official visits were scheduled.

The Carolina Cardinals wish to thank all participating teams for choosing the Carolina Cardinals Classic tournament as part of your summer schedule.

    For Sure...

Although we didn't play all that well last weekend, our Lady Blues squad loved every minute of being in Raleigh.

We saw lots of old friends (Windmiller, and yes, I do mean oooolllllldddd :glasses2:), made some new great ones (Marlin, need to lay off the caffeine, my man :satana:) and played on some quality fields.

Thanks to Ray and Sharyn for including us.

    See you next year....
