Perhaps it will catch on in the big urban areas with some softball players switching. The attractive issue for players surrounds pitching and playing the corners. Its much easier for a youngster to learn to pitch successfully in baseball than in fastpitch. Playing first and third feels much safer to a player in baseball because of the lack of the short game and the ability to set up further from the bat. I have coached both sports including girls in mixed baseball up through 14U. I can tell you there are many girls in those younger age groups who can out play the boys until they get to 14. But beyond 14 the girls do need their own league.

Both are great games, but baseball people who take the time to really watch some high level fastpitch usually end up admitting that fastpitch is a much faster and exciting game.
