Ronnie Powell (father of Landon Powell) is the new head coach at Cary High School (4A Tri-7 Conf). Coach Powell and his staff were made official last Friday at the high school.

Neil Woodall (SR Legion Coach), Don Daniels (Legion Director), Clay Council (assistant legion coach), and Harrold Kelly are the assistants.

Clay is a legend around here when it comes to throwing batting practice and teaching guys how to hit. Clay worked exclusively with Josh Hamilton, Paul Wilder, Jon Willard, Landon Powell, Hilton Pittman, and others... those were just the ones who I could think of off the top of my head. Clay has been around baseball for forever and I looked up to him sort of as a grandfather when I came up through Cary High/Cary Legion.

Interesting that the legion guys are taking over the Cary High staff... Ronnie Powell heads up the Cary JR Legion program every summer, but has nothing to do with the SR team. Woodall is the SR Legion Head Coach.

Good luck to CHS. Coach Powell should do a great job with the guys and really get Cary High baseball back on the map to where they were in the mid-late 90's.

What do yall think about this move? Having legion so closely mixed with the high school team?

    No.

Clay is a life long Cary guy, actually graduated from the original Green Hope High several years ago.

Woodall went to Cary and works with the Cary Fire Dept., and coach's Legion ball.

Daniels is a lifelong Cary guy who is with the Fire Dept. (Cheif, I think) and has been with the Cary Legion program for quite some time.

Powell is from Cary but his son went to Apex. He's been involved with the Cary Legion program for awhile as well.

Not sure about Kelly. If I saw his face I would probably know him.

Thanks JM. I knew Landon was at Apex, but wasn't sure if Ronnie was there at the same time.

    Little (BIG) update...

Cary has no head coach as of right now.

The staff that was just named isn't going to work because of some problems that I am not sure about, so I won't take a stab.

I believe there are 6 final applicants being reviewed as of now and a coach will be named in the next two weeks.
