Are we on to something here? Cary and Rocky Mount legion baseball may be the "cream of the crop" in the east... Maybe the state!!

On the junior circut, you got the Cary Bulls and Rocky Mount facing off in the Winner's Bracket of the State Tournament. Each team is 1-0 with impressive opening day wins.

For the senior league, you got Rocky Mount representing Area I East and Cary representing Area I West in the Area I Championship Best of Five series. Both teams swing the bat all the way through the line-up and have some impressive pitching.

Get your popcorn ready. These two legion programs are legit!

    Cary,Brace For Impact!

Cary pitchers are in for a rude awakening!
Rocky Mount's batting lineup is a force of nature!
Batton down the hatches, hide the woman & children, ice the arms, & stock up on Tylenol!

    The Gaunlet!
    T.J. Taylor
    Collins Cuthrell
    Xavier Macklin
    Ben Fish
    Tyler Clark
    Cameron Ramsey
    Grant Johnson
    Mike Smith
    Mike Williams
    Alex Pierce

Also, prepare to hold your breath when you go thru the meat of their line-up at Northern Nash High School. The pine trees in right field are actually talking about sueing Post 58 for assault with a deadly weapon.

    Cary's JRs always the best

Well certainly Cary's JR program is always one of the best in the state. The entire Cary legion program is centered around it - even the website www.carybulls.com only includes the senior program as a subsite. The JR program even has a second JR team for developing younger JRs (Cary Colts).

The senior program has always suffered from the best players moving on to other opportunities - i.e. showcase, Dirtbags, summer college baseball, etc. But for various reasons, this year almost all the eligible players (even DI college players) are playing this year. I don't necessarily think this will continue again next year, but Cary is enjoying a wealth of talent this year.

    Cary can also hit

Well Cary can also hit, actually I believe all 9 starters have hit at least 4 HRs this season. I know as a team they're into the upper 60s total for a team in 30 games played.

I think the difference which allowed Cary to beat Durham was Cary's depth at pitching. Durham really fell off after the #3 or #4 guy, while Cary has very little drop off all the way to #8 or so. In a long seris, that can be the difference maker.

Plus Cary will benefit from having 2 days rest for their pitchers while Rocky Mount played last night. So while hitting may be both team's strength, I think Cary's pitching might be the deciding factor - but we'll see.

the cary bulls website looks like a cary bulls website but it does mention the other legion teams that Post 67 offers. why doesn't someone make a SR legion website?

To me, it looks like the junior program in Cary develops players for the Senior team. But some of those kids choose not to play on their own. Why is that?

Cary's line-up is loaded as well, just maybe not as deep as RM's.

    Percy Evans
    Brian Rhino
    Wyatt Medlin
    Will Smith
    Chris Perry
    Eric Brady
    Wade Woodworth
    Dylan Kipp
    Hunter Carr
    Wade Woodworth
    Adam Bogoshain
    Michael Sondag

These guys can rip. Scared to see the final score tonight. Pitchers take cover. Also hope they keep the dogs inside tonight at that house in rightfield, don't want them gettin pelted all night by Diamond's.

    Cary Legion

No, the focus of the Cary Legion program is the Cary Bulls JR team. And the reason is simple, Cary Bulls' manager Ron Powell just puts in so much time into it, that it will always be the focus of the program. Powell is connected with every aspect of local Middle School, High School, even college teams and USA baseball - goes to games, scouts young kids, etc. It's his passion, it's like his full time job, and no one is going to out work him in Legion ball. I assume he just prefers to work with the younger kids vs moving up to the SRs, but don't know that for sure.

As to why kids don't stay on with the SR legion team, is actually because they become too good !!! For instance, this year Eric Brady is the team's best player, going to Duke next year, and could play next year, but will surely be playing on a college summer team (he's too good to be playing legion ball next year).

    Rocky Mount RULES !!!

Wow - two blowouts for Rocky Mount !!!

Rocky Mount 15, Cary 0 SR (7 inning mercy rule)
Rount Mount 11, Cary 0 JR (5 inning mercy rule)

Well not much to be said about those results, obviously Rocky Mount took care of business today. But Cary is still alive in both events, but have to be having some doubts going into tomorrow's games.
