Sounds like so far the overall quality of the teams at the tournament has been disappointing -- the O's 17s have won their first three games 14-0, 14-1 and 12-0, each ended after either 4 or 5 innings by the 10-run rule.

From the score it sounds like TRHit's College Select team and the O's 16s had a barn burner last night, with the O's coming out on top 3-2. The O's 16s won their game today 16-2, their third game should be ending about now.

The O's 17s will play Palmetto Express tomorrow -- that should be a closer game, and the championship round on Sunday should also produce some closer games -- look for the O's 16s and College Select to advance from the Purple bracket and the O's 17s and Palmetto Express from the Gold bracket.

Great game today between the Os 17s and Palmetto Express. Could have gone either way -- the Express team is excellent and can really ht the baseball. The O's won in 8 innings, 11-10, but the Express led 4-0, 7-4, 9-7 and 10-9 at various times. The Express players and parents were upset about several ball/strike calls, and they were right on a couple, but once they started mouthing they were not going to get a call. Anyway, semifinals and finals tomorrow, these two teams could meet again.

The O's 16's beat a pretty good Carolina Clippers team today 8-3 to sweep their pool, they are now 4-0 and will face the Palmetto Express tom.

The O's 17s won the tournament, with wins in the championship rounds over the Carolina Clippers, 6-2, and the Palmeto Express, 11-3 . They finish the tournament 6-0. The O's 16s lost a close semi-final game to the Palmetto Express and finished 4-1. Great performance by both teams.

Turns out there were 6 pretty good teams in the tourney -- the four finalists plus TRHit's College Select team and the Carolina Hurricanes.

The O's 17s finish their summer tournament schedule with a record of 18 wins, 4 losses and 3 ties, for the most part against very high level competition.

    Tourney MVP

One more thing I should have mentioned -- Michael Bogeart (Gastonia Ashbrook) was named the MVP of the tournament. Michael hit the ball well all weekend, with at least 5 hits in the last two games alone. He also got the win as the closer in the O's 11-10 win over the strong Palmetto Express team. He also caught, played some first base and DHed some. He was a very good choice for MVP, but the selection had to be difficult, as ther were were several who played very well and could have been selected. Jonathon Ratledge, Zach Kennedy, Drew Martin and Wes Borden also hit the ball very well, with Michael Cavasini and Greg Miclat doing their normal damage at the top of the order. Newcomer Josh Cable also provided some key hits and some quality innings behind the plate.

As has been the story all summer for the O's, just about the whole pitching staff had fine outings.
