Having been to Knoxville this one time I was impressed with the level of competetion that was at this tournament.TOO BAD the NC teams are restricted to the 4 games a week ,it would have been nice to compete in the elmination rounds instead of coming home. We played some tough teams the first 2 games but the last team was probably better than they showed. Some of the parents said they were a really good team but some days even the best have bad days. The fields were a step above a cow pasture and the host team parents kept apologizing thet the location this is normally held was given to a mens slow pitch tournament. There we go with girl sports taking another backseat .But the tournament was run very well under the conditions. Hats off to Gibbs for putting this together. :applause: What can we do about the 4 game rule it seems as we are the only state that does this. The other states count a tournament as one game. Is NC HS baseball under the same rules?

Agree this needs to change. That's been a discussion for quite some time, but the AD's have never approved it. You have the tourney at Knoxville, Summerville, Kingsport, and Rock Hill. At Watauga, we're going to the Eastman Invitational tourney in Kingsport and will play in the pool play and withdraw from the tournament. The tourney is run Fri, Sat, and Sun and has 37 teams from NC, Va, Tn, and Kentucky. Scholarship money is given out to teams based on where they finish. Too bad no teams from NC can never advance past the pool play until this rule changes.

The most memorable moment of all the games was the last game when Erin Hough came up to bat. For those who do not know her she forwent a radiation treatment Fri. to go when the team to Knoxville. She has been battling this cancer since 99 and loves to play softball. She is a inspiration to all the members and fans of this team. Her at bat brought tears to alot of grown men who normally hid these feelings. So when we get the bad calls, play on crappy fields,in bad weather there is always sunshine . My hat is off to her determination and never so never attitude and should be what each of us strive to be. :xyzthumbs

thanks HSFAN for sharing this with all of us.............its so much more to this game then the WINS and Losses. Erin is truely a trooper and we will contiune to be in our prayers.

its time to get back to the good ole boy networking effort again......send emails, phone the staff of nchsaa and send some editorials to our local fishwraps to get the tournament issue solved so they can compete fully and reap the rewards from them. Count it as one game!!!
