    Sanderson lost last night to Knightdale 3-0.....Here is where things get interesting....Knightdale won the division, but word is they won't have enough players available next week to participate in the playoffs, so they are forfeiting their spot. Sanderson and SSS finished tied for 2nd at 8-4 in the Mideast Division....they split two 1 run games during the season. I'm not sure how they will determine who ends up as the 1 seed, but guess it probably doesn't make a ton of difference at this point.

    The CCSSL follows high school (NCHSAA) rules, correct? I believe in this situation, if you were to follow the NCHSAA tie-breaking procedures, then going down the list of scenarios the first applicable method would be playing a special play-off game if the two teams can't mutually agree on another way to break the tie and the circumstances allow.

    If they are unable to play that extra game, the next method used would be comparing how each team did against the rest of the division, starting with the top team and moving down until the tie is resolved. In this case, Smithfield-Selma split their games against first-place Knightdale, while Sanderson dropped both of their games to the Knights breaking the tie in favor of SSS.

    Not sure how they determined the tiebreaker, but based on the playoff brackets posted on the CCSSL website, Sanderson is the #1 seed from the Mideast and will play Orange County in the 1st round Monday at Cary Academy.
