Due to my recent departure from Charlotte I have only been able to keep up with how some of the local guys are doing this summer. It would be great if you could keep my updated on who is playing well, and who is getting calls from where. Plus, this is an exciting time for a rising senior especially and I think that having a thread to inform everyone, not just myself, as to how everyone is doing. Thanks!

Here are a list of players I'm curious about how they did in college.

    Paul Dover
Rob Davis-- I know he is at a military college, but did he play baseball?
    Brad Josey
    Alex Gary

...and what is up with Daniel Bard and Team USA. I know he made the team, but can someone tell us about Team USA and who do they play?

By the Way...congratulations Daniel for making this prestigious team.

Two guys I'd like to hear about also .....

Craig Gesslein (Independence) and Matt Wiley (West Charlotte)...both were freshmen this season up at Lenoir Rhyne but I haven't heard much about their season. These two are both gamers.

I went to the Lenoir-Rhyne web site and pulled some "stats" for Craig and Matt .... Very Impressive Freshman seasons for both of them.

    Craig Gesslein: Batting Average .316 (5th on team), Slugging .456 (3rd), On-Base .407 (4th), HR's 3 (1st).

    Matt Wiley: Runs Scored 30 (5th), Hits 53 (3rd), RBI's 31 (3rd),
Doubles 8 (5th), Triples 4 (1st), Total Bases 72 (2nd), Sac Flies 2 (3rd), At Bats 171 (2nd). Though not in the top 5, Matt hit .310 on the season.

That's two great freshman seasons ... does anyone know where they are playing over the summer???

    Hey there NC and Braves!

Rob Davis attended Army (West Point) with the intentions os playing football and wasnt sure whether or not he was going to play baseball. That was until January rolled around and the baseball coach approached him and wanted him to come out and play.So Rob, being the most well-rounded individual I have ever met in my entire life, joined the Army Black Knight team. It did not take long for him to get back into baseball shape. I saw him play Niagra University at Guilford College in March and he was all over the place. He courtesy ran and warmed up outfielders, and then in the 8th inning he pinch hit and grounded out to the third baseman on a bang bang play due to the fact that he has some serious wheels. From what I kept up with after that game, Rob eventually earned a starting role in many games in right field and even hit a bomb in a game.
Rob will probably start most of the games in right fields next year for Army. And as for football, I hear we will be seeing him on ESPN a lot more. That's pretty much my run down on Davis. You couldnt ever say enough about the guy.
And just as a side note, he was the best leader I have ever crossed the lines with. If he had asked me to come up to Army with him, I would have. I would fight in any war with that guy.

I see we have a good report on Mr. Davis, congrats to him on a fine freshman season. I pulled up Western's website, found tidbits on some of our own. Brad finished season 4-2, 3.52 ERA. Alex wound up with a .358 BA and .895 fielding. Alex Obert was listed as a relief pitcher with a .219 ERA and 0-1. Dover did not get much playing time at Pfeiffer. He wound up in a bullpen full of right handers, and playing being a stud at first base. He got 2 innings of playing time at pitcher and no other field or hitting time. He played the lions share of devo time. Robert Scott, the 1st baseman he played behind played every game and was second on the team in hitting, behind Mark Schleicker (who I hear signed his draft offer). So he is hoping for some more time this year, but only time will tell.

Matt Wiley's playing in the SCBL (wood bat league) this summer for the Carolina Copperheads along with Kevin Pratt and Chad Tilley (East Meck and Elon University). I think Craig decided he needed a little break and is not playing summer ball.

Jimmy Cochran (Ind.), Seth Foster (Prov.), and Ryan Foster (Prov.) also played for Western this year. Western made it to the regionals only to get beat by State in Wilson on some really, really bad calls.

Greg Magnum (EM) started second base for UNC.

Spencer Anthony (Hard.) is at Catawba.

Anyone know if Josh Moore (Ind.) is still at UNCC?

I believe that there are several players with Gastonia in Coastal Plains league playing wood bat summer ball.
