I think this is more about other sports in this case and the perception of "recruiting"

I hope no one on here is naive enough to think that many schools around here dont have kids crossing school, county and even state lines to play at a public school they arent supposed to be at.

Some are doing it under the "magnet" and IB programs, some are simply doing it in 100% illegal fashion.

I would also add that about 95% or more of these Catholic students began as Kindergartners at Catholic elementary schools like St Gabes, St Matts, St Marks, St Anns, St Pats, etc. There is far, far less "recruiting" going on at Catholic versus some of the CMS schools.

I would feel much better playing CCHS than I would some of the public schools as far as feeling like you are playing on even ground.

NCHSAA bylaws are very clear. No scholarships can be offered if you are part of the NCHSSA. These bylaws have been broken for years by Catholic and the number at Gibbons is very large.
    Bye bye

I'm glad to see the discussion -- that's why I got it started. However, after growing up in Charlotte, and growing up in the Catholic school system and sending both of my sons all the way through the Catholic school system, I know for a fact that athletic scholarships are not and have never been given to a single student at Charlotte Catholic -- I cannot speak for Bishop Mcguiness or Cardinal Gibbons. Scholarships are given to a small percentage of students on a need basis -- however, that decision is made through the Mecklenburg Area Catholic School office -- of which Charlotte Catholic has no say so. Students transferring in must sit out 2 full semesters before playing any sport.
To answer what "a non o mous" wrote -- yes, Catholic is indeed a consistent winner in all sports. They have won several Wachovia Cups in recent years for the best overall athletic program in the NCHSAA for their respective 3A division.
Also, if it comes down to a "scholarship or recruiting" issue -- I'm sure that there will be lawsuits involved. Let's think of it this way, do public schools not issue free lunches to those students in need. Just wondering.....
