TJ21, you are exactly right, this was a really nice article about a great baseball team, and the folks in Mecklenburg County appreciate when our guys are included in coverage.

I think the "occasional criticism for "not" covering local sports" is more related to perceived equity in coverage from one sport to another and one part of the county to another. Look back at what was published and online since January. We know they have a small staff trying to cover a huge topic, so maybe we need to do a better job of passing on information to Cliff and his team? I think folks get a little frustrated sometimes when they know their teams are doing some outstanding things and they just want a little recognition for their guys too.

Having Cliff as a TBR member helps, too. Since he has been in control, baseball has received much more attention than recent years.

Cliff has done a super job, I just wanted to give Dan props for this fine article in how he detailed how legion teams have specific boundaries, how other communities (in this case he used Churaville) worship legion ball, and he had good info about this specific Charlotte legion team too. He obviously had done his homework.

Legion ball "is" a my community vs. your community thing, and its nice to see the word get out to Charlotte communities. Articles like this may help persuade even more of the better players to want to come play for Huntersville, Charlotte or Pineville in years to come.

Let me give you an example of what every legion program and/or community should strive for if you have a baseball team,,,,,,,, last night I was at a game between Rowan County and Mooresville, 2nd round of the state playoffs, there were 3 radio stations there, 2 separate newspapers, an estimated 900-1000 fans, and the winner's portion of the half-n-half was $384.

Young boys grow up in those 2 communities dreaming to be a part of that someday...

It is great to see a newspaper with as much coverage as the Charlotte Observer, who has such an impact on so many, do an article like this. Hopefully we will see more in the future.

Btw, legion state tournament in Gastonia, hopefully will see Cliff or Dan there.

We schedule Rowan County in non-conference games every year just so our team can feel that experience, it will be the only time that a lot of them will play in front of a large crowd and on a college field.

Okay, just to play devil's advocate here, there are three teams from Mecklenburg County still in the playoffs, and they are getting more press in the other counties than their own.....

Well Huntersville had a huge series with Caldwell County, and the Observer had better take note of Pineville because they are loaded.

Stupid question, who is your 3rd team? (Sorry for my ignorance)

Not a stuipd question...third team is Newell. Not exactly sure, but I think they draw from Butler, Independence, and maybe Garinger high schools; from the UNCC area towards Mint Hill.
