I don't think this has been posted here yet. I know Alan has posted here from time to time and I'm sure many posters know him.

There is a lot of back and forth over on greensborosports.com which broke the story earlier today.

Grimsley has been fairly successful since he coached there. I have no dog in the fight but there apparently has been a lot of drama at Grimsley with parent and transfer issues in several sports and lots of turnover with coaches and administrators.

I know Alan well enough and don't care why he is no longer at the high school. He can come coach with me anytime. We would love to have him.

Coach Ash has my respect. All the young guys he has influenced in the Greensboro W/S area you could start a successful college program with. He will land on his feet.

    Just shows

how we have become. Sorry Braves had to read it. It is like see a bunch of clowns fall down steps. Damn funny some of the comments. Never meet the guy so I'm pretty neutral here. But, for the negative posters it just shows what grade level they are. I will say this for anyone to make a point that it is a coaches job to make sure his players keeps their grades up. I thought that was a "PARENTS" job. Guess that one wanted a baby sitter not a coach.

I have known about Alan since I was a kid growing up in the late 80’s in Kernersville and he had the only decent place in the state to hit baseball indoors. He was a stud player and became one of the top instructors when parents quit wanting to take the time to work with their kids during the 90’s. Thank God so many of those parents out there were too lazy to actually figure out the game a little, or play catch in the back yard after work, or couldn’t admit your son was a terrible athlete and baseball player because now there are “real” coaches out there getting paid 40$ an hour to play catch with their children. Then the same coach who they put on a pedastal and pay to work with their kid because they don’t know the first thing about baseball, are the same parents who crucify the guy for treating them with enough respect to keep them around when a lesser guy would have cut their butts.
When Alan got hired over there the entire college coaching community applauded the school system for hiring a real baseball coach who was going to teach the kids fundamental, respect for the game, and lessons in life involving playing time and those who perform success. I knew I could recruit a kid form there and not regret it a year later. I can’t say that for many schools or coaches in Guilford county.
You weak parents raising the next generation of weak adults - congratulations! You won another battle against people who are trying to teach your kids what life is all about. Next year when your son starts or plays for a team that will win 3 games enjoy. You’ve earned it.

Alan was done in by his own success. Many players who either played for or worked out at Greensboro Batting Center wanted to play for him and found a way to transfer into his school district and play for him at Grimsley. These were usually very good ball players and they took the playing time of other kids who lived in the district. Too many parents of the kids not playing complained long and hard that he recruited players. The guy is a great coach and a winner and that is why many want to play for him. It is a shame that parents of kids not good enough to play had him fired!

yeah thats the place. It's not the best site around for sure but it's about the only local site (to Guilford County) that posts info on high school sports. If there was another local alternative it would get my clicks instead.

    Congratulations Coach!

It is an honor to get fired because you do the job the right way and clowns don't want you around. This is nothing new folks. It happens all the time. The same parents that kiss the backside of the coach before they get to the program are the ones that will put a knife in that same guys back when he doesnt hand out playing time like the rec league. You can buy lessons , you can buy gear , heck you can even buy your way on some summer teams. But then you get in a real hs program and your kid has to earn it and now its not fair anymore. They will get exactly what they deserve. They will get a "Coach" that will return the favor and kiss their butt and they will all be happy when lil Billy gets his playing time. Then it will be time to graduate and they will be stabbing the new guy in the back because they wont believe that Billy is not getting a scholley.

Can you imagine what kind of "Coach" will take a job in a program where the other guy was fired for putting the most competitive team on the field in all the games? Soft , spoiled , coddled kids. Raised by soft , spoiled , coddled older kids. The same kids whose parents carry their kids bat bag to the dugout and then run to the concession stand to get them the red gatorade. The same parents that say "What can we do to help the program coach.?" And then stand behind the stands at the games and talk trash when Billy is not in the game.

Administrators that have never put on a jock in their life or had to earn anything on the field in their life. Administrators that wont stand up for the guys doing it the right way. He is better off. They dont deserve a guy like him. They deserve exactly what they are going to get. And any player that transfers out of this program has every right to do it. But you know what thats what these parents hope happens. Then their kids will get even more playing time. After all its not about winning and earning anything. Its about their kid and what they want to get for him. Good luck.

    Proverbial nail on the head:

"I really think that most people today would rather be on a team that’s 5-20 and play than be on a state champion and be a role player,” Ashkinazy said. “And that’s sad to me, that people have become so selfish.”
