His was man on the mound. Mine the man who runs the field, calls his pitches and eats dirt for lunch between games. Catchers the unsong heros of the game. Postem boys.

4 guys that come to my mind...

I have seen these guys perform and each are pretty good players...

Jeff May (08) South GRanville/UNC - WHat else is there to say about Jeff? It has all been shared at one time or another on TBR. I have watched him since he was a chubby kid at South Granville. Man has he worked his but off to develop into the kid that committed to the Tar Heels. Strong arm, can absolutely mash the ball. He will not see very many pitches to hit this spring, I predict.

Trey Davis (09) Person - Trey has worked really and has developed into a fine catcher. He still has a ways to go in terms of development, but he is a fine defensive catcher, a good catch and throw guy, and has developed into a clutch hitter with decent gap power. Very solid player and will be a good prospect. All Conference as a Sophomore in the PAC-6.

Travis Horn (09) Northern Durham - Another fine catcher in our area, he was All Conference also. Solid player with a pretty good arm and release. A very solid player that will also be a fine player this season.

Max Gagnon (09) Sanderson - good defensive catcher. Projects pretty well because he has the body type that is looked for today. Tall kid with good arm action... has the ability to show some power. Also pitches...

All 4 are good kids and fine players... watch out for these 09's!!

    Best Defensive Catcher

West Forsyth High School - Chris Sanders ('08) - one of the best defensive catchers i have seen behind the dish. Cool and calm under pressure; has great field vision; outstanding blocking and receiving skills - and is a great kid on and off the field. Hit .403, with 6 HR and 23 RBI's in '07. Will be one to watch this fall and spring.

Good one developing at Asheville High. 2009 Ryan Carlton. Hits for average and has power. Got to work on pop time a little. Very good defensively.

    Trey McCraw

My vote is Trey McCraw, 08, Parkland High School in Winston-Salem. Small but strong and as tough as they come. I have seen several bigger players bounce off him when trying to nail him at the plate. Absolutely loves playing the game. Don't know exact pop times and all the numbers but have coached him since he was 8 years old. At Disney World for the 9U AAU National Tournament, Trey comes to me and says he wants to catch. "What do I need to do?" I squatted him at the outfield fence and started throwing tennis balls at him. I told him to learn to stop those and you can catch. He has been catching successfully since age 10. On top of that, most umpires will tell you he is VERY entertaining back there.

Ben Fish - Rocky Mount HS

09 catcher Ben Fish from Rocky Mount HS. Highest level prospect. Outstanding reciever , very good arm and he can hit. He is a major D-1 talent and is an outstanding young man.

    Greg Lawson

    '08 Providence
One of the better arms in the state, with a quick release. Blocks above average. Can hit for power and makes consistent contact. Didn't see too much time in the loaded 2007 Providence lineup, but he should be a big player for the Panthers this year. Should be a solid college prospect if that is what he wishes, I'll be interested to see where this fne young man goes.
