Guru, Hitler won battles but that doesn't mean we should vote him in as Dictator of The Century! I almost, don't believe a winning record should even factor in on the decision! Lots of coaches don't win a lot of games but are fabulos coaches!

    Staff is important!!!

Are we talking about a Coach of the Year on the state level? That would be a tough one...there are so many worthy of such an honor. Also, and I think most head coaches would agree, while there is one "head" coach...most successful programs have a pretty extensive coaching staff. I know of one, simply because I've been around the program, but North Davidson's coaching staff is one of the best in the business. Coach Lambros is one of the best head coaches in the state because he knows how to surround himself with the best staff. And he'll admit that he has the luxury of having one of the strongest "support systems" in the state as well. You can look right down the line at the coaches at the middle school level and even in the community teams. All of those coaches work to prepare those girls for the High School level and Coach Lambros' program.

I think that Coach Poindexter at Central Davidson is another coach that has a great staff and support system. His program is showing the benefits of such a program...like North...in the second consecutive year in Raleigh.

One of the other coaches that I've learned a little about is Coach Sherrill at Central Cabarrus...and the same story applies. He also has a great staff!!!

While only one name will be placed on any Coach of the Year award...the "head" coaches will be the first to tell you that they would be nothing without their staff.

    Thank You Jfagala....

Thank you jfagala, you answered one of the questions. So I guess if you are the best team in your conference, then chances are good that you will be nominated by other coaches?
Well the no player input thing, I feel that should change! If the players are the ones being coached by these individuals, then why shouldn't they nominate their coach! I think you would find out a better idea of who really should be the Coach Of The Year! Because in fact, isn't it the players that are being coached? By the time these players are in HS, most of them can drive a car, if they can drive a car, then they are capable of making a nomination for Coach Of The Year! I'll bet that you would see a lot of coaches getting the award, that didn't always have the winning record. Because believe it or not, winning isn't everything, to the players, all the time. There is such a thing as I improved my game from what I was taught, I learned how to be a part of a team!! I became a better person from learning from that coach!
Just saying, maybe it should be thought about!

    These are all nice....

The comments you made are all nice, however, you did not answer any of the questions in the thread. We all could sit here and name coaches that we feel should get the award! We all know coaches who have gotten the award and we don't think they should have. This thread is about the process that goes into selecting or determining Coach Of The Year. Not trying to put you off, but I really want everyone to stay on topic of this thread. So that this doesn't turn into a I think he/she should be, type of thread.

Not all good programs have a lot of coach's/support staff. I think KM only has 1 asst. coach along with the head coach. So you really do not need a lot to have a good program.
