Coach Osborne at ECU will be leaving to go to GA

    From the Athens Banner :
On Wednesday, coach David Perno confirmed that East Carolina assistant Allen Osborne has accepted an offer to become the Diamond Dogs' new hitting coach.

"I'm very excited to be coming back," Osborne said. "When I left after the 2002 season, (Perno) sat down and said if I went out and did a good job, work hard, that there would be an opportunity to come back to Athens if an opening were to arise."

Osborne said he received a call from Perno when it became apparent that Norris would not be retained.

Osborne said he will report to Georgia as soon as the Pirates' season is complete.

    Side note to ECU coaches

Strong sources out of G'ville have mentioned that only Randy Mazey will return to ECU next year...unconfirmed is a report that Tommy Eason is looking to leave for a head coach's position possibly at Pitt CC with the departure of Monte Little.

Surprised at Eason leaving, I thought he would take over the reigns of Louisburg's program.

    Who is headin' to Louisburg?

    Billy Godwin post

I have been very close to the Louisburg Program for a number of years and I can assure the above post about Coach Godwin is as far from the truth as you can get. It was a tremendous loss for his departure from the College and the baseball program. Several letters to the editor in the local news paper The Franklin Times have been written expressing there displeasure with the school not doing everything possible to retain this great coach and ambassodor for the school. I can't understand where this info comes from and how someone would post this with no sources. A new coach long time asst. Tommy Atkinson has been recommended by Coach Godwin and named the new head coach. I don't think he would have been hired at ECU if this had of been the case. Louisburg loss will be ECU's gain. What a great addition to there program. Check with the legends on BILLY GODWIN: Russ Frazier Rabbitt Fulghum George Whitfield and the list goes on. For the record I couldn't lose because I played for both programs Louisburg and ECU.

where does this garbage come from

In reference to the baseball junkie's post concerning Billy Godwin. What a bunch of hoo-hoo. You need to get your facts straight. How dare you defame someone with the moral integrity of Billy Godwin. I have worked closely with billy godwin for years and, I promise you, he was not fired at Louisburg College. He left on his own free will.
MAybe it is your sick thrill to be caught with a co-ed, but I guarantee Billy Godwin did not. Billy's gone because of career advancement and the creation of a joke of football program. We will miss Billy, but Tommy Atkinson is a good baseball man and will be successful as well. Tommy's an excellent recruiter, gets along with parents and players, and is a good game coach.
As for baseball junkie, get a job reporting for CBS. I hear they'll take a story without reliable sources.

I have a hard time believing that about Coach Godwin as well. I was an assistant coach for a team that played against him and our team and his had some bitter rivalries and contests with each side getting quite heated at times, but I have a hard time believing that story. I'll put it this way, I don't know the truth either way, but I don't see ECU hiring him if that were the case. I hope for the sake of the coaching community this isn't true because we hear of this far too much as it is. Let us know where you are getting this from because I would be interested to know if it is true.
