Coaching Change in Gaston County

    I was told last night that one of the top coaches in Gaston County is going to Clover. Supposedly he has only told his principal of his decision so far.

    One of the top coaches in Gaston County? For future reference theres a whopping seven coaches in Gaston County and Darrell Vandyke is far from the best.

    Gaston County Coaches Change

    I respect and admire Coach V for his hard work and dedication to the East Gaston program. If it is Coach V, I, for one will miss him quite a bit. He is a class act. :thud:

    Coach VanDyke

    Darrell has run a good program for a long time. He told me last year he was thinking of retiring from the NC system, and moving to a program in SC. I talked to him this past summer when we played a tournament at East Gaston. I wish him well in his new endeavors, as we are first cousins.

    It was announced in today's Observer that Coach Van Dyke will be at Clover High next year.

    I expect that many of Coach Van Dyke's fellow coaches would disagree with this. Talent can make a coach look good and by the same token, can make a coach look not so good. The talent seems to come and go at all schools.

    Back when Chet Greeson was at Harding (he left after the 1997 season) he was a neighbor of Coach Van Dyke, who happened to live within sight of East Gaston. I wonder if the E.G. job would hold any interest for Chet? In 1997, it did, but much has changed since then. Just thinking out loud............

    Coach Greeson would not even listen to that offer...and i would be willing to put money on that..
    He has somewhat of a dream job now.. what would he go to Gaston Co. for?
    and dont say for a challenge... he gets that everyday now...

    best coach in gaston county

    The best coach in Gaston County retired a couple years ago, Henry Jones from Cherryville
