    Can a travel ball coach that coached during the dead period be an assistant coach for high school ?

    I also was wondering that question and inturn , can high school coaches actually coach a TB team? If so, whats the rules on that?

    to answer the first question: if the travel ball coaches girls on the hs team that he/she coached during the dead period, the answer is no, it is a clear violation of the rules and it doesnt matter if that person is a paid or volunteer coach for the hs.

    to answer the second question: the rules of coaching hs ball are pretty clear to me. dead periods are dead periods, you coach no one, you cant be on the field, or in most cases, near the field depending upon county rules. a hs coach can coach tb, but, he/she cannot have more than 8 players from his hs team on this tb team - this includes rising freshman who have not yet attended the hs, but are coming (i saw this rule applied a few years ago and it just hurt the rising freshmen involved).

    the hs/tb coach must follow the dead periods that apply to hs teams during tb season.

    i lived with this for the last two years of my tb coaching stints. there is one exception to this rule, you can coach your daughter during dead periods, you can work out with you daughter during dead periods and i got this straight from Raleigh. but she better not be with anyone else from her hs team.

    yeah, saw some of it this fall and winter.. it will catch up to them sometime..

    We were investigated last year because some knew that I used to coach a lot of our players when they were younger. (LOL)Sad thing is, if they will look into a .500 or lower team for school Look out to successful programs! The NCHSAA will look into ANY case that is brought to their attention based soley on hearsay. But, the athletic director should know first. Thankfully, we were not in any violation and our overall record showed.:victoryg:.

    Sounds like someone might be in trouble????? Good luck, hope that there was not a facaulty member wanting to coach.

    A high school coach may coach a travel ball team during the summer and have their entire squad. However, once the fall sports dead period hits, then no contact until dead period is over. Once the dead period is over, the 8 player limit goes into effect.
