I would like to introduce a friend of ours whom happens to be a member of our forum: The Oriole has been involved with HS baseball for 15+ years. During this time he has served as a HS head coach, State Games assistant and head coach and has touched the lives of many players across the State. He has players that have played for him that continue to play at all levels of baseball including professionally.

The Oriole has written a book that will be helpful to any coach working with kids. He has worked with the Ripken family and they endorse his coaching philosophy. Please take the time to check out The Oriole's website...you will find it helpful

I have published two articles in regards to coaching fundamentals. My most recent work was a part of the nationally syndicated April 1998 issue of Scholastic Coaches’ Coach and Athletic Director. Yet to go to press is my second piece of literature entitled" What Do We Do Now Daddy?" an easy to read and follow reference pamphlet with practical tips and advice for aspiring youth coaches. I am a true student of athletics and coaching! I have turned down the opportunity to coach at the intercollegiate level because the ART of coaching is truly employed with youngsters as they first are introduced to the game in which they love with a passion! My philosophy is focused and centered around teaching a tough disciplined work ethic, a sound grasping of the fundamentals, an aggressive and assertive style of mentality and play, and the concept of team unity and doing what is best for the team!
Personally, I have been married for fifteen years. My wife Hope, daughter Sasha, and son Seth currently reside in Lake Norman, North Carolina.

    Cordially,
    Bill Horniak

    one endorsement!

“The principles in Bill Horniak’s “What do we do now Daddy … I mean Coach?” are right in line with what we believe at Ripken Baseball. The most important thing for young ballplayers is to depressurize the game and make it fun. This grows their passion for baseball and makes them want to discover all that it has to offer. If more youth coaches and parents would share Bill’s philosophy the game will continue to flourish.”

    another endorsement for interested parties...

“Bill does not provide readers with words to stumble over, but rather with words to chew on….The greatest tandem relay in life is that of a parent and a child, and because sport involves us physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually all at the same time Bill’s work questions and permeates while making meaning of these shared experiences. This work is one that we can read daily as we navigate life and sport with our children.”
Scott Gines is a founder and coordinator of the Virginia Baseball Camp, Inc. He is presently entering his fourteenth season of collegiate coaching, and third as VMI head coach. From 1983-87 Gines served as an assistant coach at the University of Virginia where the Cavaliers advanced to the NCAA Regionals in 1985 and a season ending 23rd national ranking. In 1987 Gines became Head Coach at Radford University. Three of his teams finished second in the Big South Conference, and he was named Big South Coach of the year in 1989. Two of his final four Highlander ball clubs won the Big South batting title, with his final three ball clubs finishing in the national top 25 in team batting average. He left Radford in December of 1994 as the school's winningest baseball coach to become head coach at his alma mater, VMI. Scott presently is serving as Athletic Director at Fairmont State University in West Virginia

A native of Spring Arbor, Michigan, Gines graduated with distinction from VMI and holds an M.Ed. in sport psychology from the University of Virginia. He has over 29former players who have gone on to play at the professional level, and is a popular speaker and writer in the field of sport psychology, motivation and confidence. A camp veteran, Gines annually directs as many as 12 baseball camps per year.
