Beautiful weather at the Milligan Fall Classic last Saturday. ETSU went undefeated in the tourney beating UV-Wise, Cumberland,
Milligan, Mars Hill, Emory and Henry and the championship game against Tusculum. Saw several good games.

Also some some local girls playing,

    Miranda Byerly (Enka) (ETSU)
    Amanda Verner (Erwin) (Milligan)
    Amy Rich (TC Roberson) (E&H)
    Vanessa Osteen (Owen) (Brevard)
    Lori McGeary (Owen) (Brevard)

ETSU heads to UNCC for their tournament this weekend.

PS... A great addition for ETSU this year, Belinda Barrera from Jack Britt in Fayettville/Gulf Coast CC. She went 3-0 striking out 14, 11, and 9 respectively.:D :D :D

I am glad to see that the young ladies from WNC played great this weekend. Just one correction though. Amy Rich is from A.C. Reynolds....

Thanks for the correction. I should have known that.

Byerly at ETSU went 5-14 this weekend with 1HR, 2b and 5 RBI. Drove in game winner in bottom of 7th against Milligan.

    Bottom of the 7th

Yea yea yea, I saw that hit. Those are hard to take losing in the bottom of the 7th. Your DD played well all day, Off and Def. proud to say I know her :D . The Milligan girls were a bit down afterwards, Coach Holly told them to hold there heads up, they just played a D1 team and held there own.

Hope to see you Saturday week at ETSU. I believe the Lady Buffs will come to play.:xyzthumbs

    Milligan Sports news

Here's the Milligan Sports news write up,

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (September 21, 2003) - The Milligan Lady Buffaloes Softball team finished third in this weekend's 12th Annual Milligan College Fall Classic at Winged Deer Park in Johnson City.

On Friday evening, Milligan shut out Cumberland College 3-0. Freshman centerfielder Sarah Smith went 3-3 with three stolen bases and scored a run. The shut out came behind a strong pitching performance from junior Brandy Waddle. Waddle pitched six innings with nine strikeouts, one hit and not allowing a run.
The next game for the Lady Buffs, also Friday was against Mars Hill. Milligan won 10-1 with a great effort from sophomore Rebecca Gilley as she went 2-2 scoring two runs. Waddle had a great outing on the mound going five innings with nine strikeouts and giving up one run.

On Saturday, Milligan started the day with ETSU, losing 1-0. Once again, Waddle kept the Buffalos in the game with great pitching, as ETSU only had three hits though seven innings.

Milligan then took on AAC rival, UVA-Wise. Milligan pulled out a 3-2 victory. The winning pitcher was senior Shelby Banion as she went four innings, scattering five hits and giving up two runs. Milligan's record in pool play was 3-1, coming in second to ETSU and advancing to the semifinals against Tusculum. The Lady Buffs fell 6-0.

The college division semifinals consisted of Milligan against Tusculum and Emory & Henry against ETSU. ETSU was the only semifinalist to go though pool play undefeated at 4-0. The other three teams were 3-1. ETSU defeated Emory & Henry 5-4 to set the championship game up between the Lady Bucs of ETSU against Tusculum. ETSU ran away with the championship game, winning 6-1 behind strong pitching from Belinda Barrera.

Hanger 4, thanks for the kind words about DD. It was good to see your DD play too. Milligan really did hold their own with ETSU. That was a great game. Lady Buffs will do well in their conference play this year.

Thanks for the copy story about the Tourney. I'll see you on the 4th at the ETSU tournament.
