    Glad Kim and Niki did well, they are former Lady Blues and are great team oriented kids. Kim played a position she had never played for me this past summer and was outstanding. She should have a good college career. Niki is just a great young lady with the best attitude I have ever coached. Great job girls.

    Milligan College SPORTS NEWS RELEASE

    Milligan Softball wins ETSU tournament

    MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (October 4, 2003) - Milligan College Lady Buffalos softball team defeated East Tennessee State University Saturday evening at Metro Park in Johnson City to win ETSU's Round Robin Tournament.

    In Milligan's first game, ETSU defeated the Lady Buffs 7-1 behind a strong pitching performance from Tiffany McVay, who pitched 7 innings, allowing 1 run, scattering 3 hits and striking out 11. Leading the way for Milligan was junior first baseman, Brooke Davis who was 1-2 at the plate with a double and walk. Senior catcher Shelby Banion was 1-3 batting, with 1 RBI, and freshman left fielder Amanda Verner was 1-2 at the plate, with a walk and scoring 1 run.

    In the Lady Buffs' next game, against Walters State, Milligan fell behind 5-0 after a 5 run second inning. Milligan stormed back with a 2 out, 6th inning rally, scoring all of their 9 runs to lead them to a 9-8 victory. Junior pitcher, Brandy Waddle earned the win on the mound, pitching 5 innings, striking out 6, while spreading 3 runs and 5 hits. Brooke Davis was 2-3 at the plate, with a triple, 2 RBIs, and scoring 2 runs. Freshman third baseman Megan Aldridge was 3-4, with a double, scoring a run, with 2 RBIs. Freshman center fielder Sarah Smith was 2-4 at the plate, scoring 1 run, with 2 RBIs.

    In the championship game, Milligan jumped out to a 3-0 lead over ETSU, and did not lose the lead, defeating the Lady Bucs 3-2. The Lady Buffs was led offensively by junior second baseman, Danielle Gilley, who was 2-3 batting, and scoring 2 runs and Sarah Smith, who was 1-2 at the plate with 2 RBIs. Brandy Waddle earned her 2nd win of the day, pitching 7 innings, scattering 8 hits and 2 runs.



    Milligan starting 5 freshman did a great job Saturday Off. & Def.
    The upper classmen tell me they're looking forward to Conf. play in .04. :xyzthumbs

    Great report from the ETSU tournament and its nice to hear their(Milligan) are excited about the 2004 season! Lots of running, weights, workouts, practices in groups, individual, classroom, study hall and such...............in between! Good luck and do keep us posted as you have so equolently have....................:D
