Lot of decisions coming up w/ dd. Have heard alot of older girls discuss daily workout schedules, etc. What is the norm as far as "off season" and "during season" daily workout schedules. I know they play 'bout every weekend during spring, etc. Lookin' for what's really to be expected during the week.

Thanks for the comments. Adding up hours and it seems as much time for ball as that for classes and study time. Have to think on that.

    Softball/College

If U join a D-1 program, your DD will spend on average 24 hours a week either lifting, conditioning, running, practicing, or other softball related activities. D-11 and D-111 will go at least 20 hours a week with the same activities. During the season, your DD will miss several classes a week unless she has an early morning schedule and even then she will miss class as most games will begin at 1pm to assure two games are played before dark. It is a huge commitment so be sure DD really enjoys and wants to play softball.

Remember, U go to college to study and get a degree to assist U in future career goals. U have to balance studies and softball, as well as social activities so your grades do not suffer! It can be tough but will teach U time management, ability to prioritize, and independence which are all great tools for any career. Softball, as long as it remains fun can be a great learning tool and a stress relief from the rigors of college. However if it becomes a burden, it can destroy one of the best times of your life. Be sure your daughter wants to play college softball for the right reasons!

Lblues your numbers are not exactly correct. Here are exact numbers as set forth by the NCAA.

D1 and D2 can only partcipate "during season" 20 hours per week (no more than 4 hours per day ) in countable athletically related activities includes conditioning. Same for both D1 & D2.

D1 and D2 can only participate "off-season" 8 hours per week (of which only 2hours may be spent on "individual workouts") in countable athletically related activites including weight-training, conditioning and individual workouts.

My daughter actually corrected me. She said I was correct about the NCAA guidelines but there are also "voluntary" workouts that she does which require several more hours. The coaches do not attend the "voluntary" workouts.

Your DD is correct and pitchers and catchers get to do more "voluntary" work then others
