Just a reminder to all 18u and 16u teams planning to play in the Southern Star Team Showcase in Savannah, GA June 25-27, 2010 that the deadline to register is May 1, 2010. Some information was printed with April 1 as the deadline, but that was changed when we moved the dates back due to the change in the college recruiting calendar.

Right now we have over 80 teams from 7 states pre-registered, so if you are interested then you may want to get your entry in ASAP.

Teams traveling to Colorado on Sunday or Monday can request Friday and Saturday only play.

    conflict

I did my best to pick a weekend that did not conflict with other major showcases in the South and NQ's that I could find out about before I choose it. When the NCAA made the first weekend in June a "dead period" because of the moving back of the World Series, it forced me to change my date as well. We had the first week in June the last 2 years.

If you look below, you can see why I choose that weekend.

I do not know what to say, except I wish there was not a conflict and if possible I hope teams from NC can still come.

    Sorry,
    Ty

Weekend of June 5th - dead period
Weekend of June 12th - Gold Diamond Showcase, Southern Gold qualifier and Southern Premier qualifier
Weekend of June 19th - Dynamite Classic, Southern Gold Qualifier and Senic City 16's Showcase
Weekend of June 26th - Southern Star! (and now NC ASA State)
Weekend of July 3rd - East Coast Fireworks and Colorado Showcases
Weekend of July 10 - Jax Storm Showcase (and GA ASA State)
Weekend of July 17 - Rising Star Showcase, Carolina Cardinal Classic and Atlanta Legacy Weekend
Weekend of July 24 - ?? (maybe I should have put it here)
Weekend of August 7 - ASA Nationals
Weekend of August 14 - Premier Nationals

    ???????

Why don't you list the teams that are playing in your events on the web page?

Once all the teams have been chosen we do list them. We do not have a list yet because we are still taking applications.

That list is posted right after the deadline. Or do you mean like from past events?

I was specifically referring to tournaments that haven't been played yet. I haven't been nor has my dd ever been to one of your tournaments. I thought for those who haven't been, it would be helpful to see who was playing and where they are coming from. You can see this same type of information on most other sites. Just wondering why you didn't have it available for people to view. It might help to get more teams interested in going. Just my opinion

    2 types

There are two types of showcases, select and open. In the open ones they list them as they sign up and in select it is only after the teams have been chosen.

The only good "open" showcase that I know of is the Rising Star because they have SO many fields available to them that they can do it that way and they have the reputation to do so. All other open ones that I know of are watered down events where too many teams are allowed in and the fields are so spread out that nobody gets seen and often college coaches shy away from because of this fact.

The select are usually the better events and only post the teams after the deadline and selection process. Teams are based on merit, level of play and past history. I guess most of the ones I have attended with my groups have always been the select, so I am used to having to wait. I.e Dynamite, Ronald McDonald, Colorado, Surf City, Gold Diamond, Jax Storm, Music City, Southeastern, etc. These showcases are select and not open to every single team that enters. Therefore teams are not posted until after the selection process.

I know that the Cardinals run a great showcase in NC, and I am not sure if they are open or select, so I can not personally comment on it. We have never been able to fit it into our schedule, but would have liked and or like to one day.

This is a select event and not every team that signs up gets in. If I start posting teams as they sign up, teams will believe they are in and start making plans. Then if they are not chosen, there are A LOT of hard feelings. Not good!

    Hope that helps.

We will be making our final selections later this month. Presently we have teams from 6 states already registered. If you are not in the NC ASA State, come on down!
