Fresno St was 17-1 and UGA was 15-1.

The better team won as there was just no answer for their bats. I do think the best two TEAMS were in the finals maybe not the ones with the best talent top to bottom but definitely two teams who put ego aside.

A great run and I hope the Dawgs make another one in 2 years!:biggrina:

What did you guys think overall of the TV coverage of the CWS? To me, it was good but could be much better. I think it would be great to bring in a couple of current Div 1 coaches for color commentary from teams that say lost out in the super-regionals or who have had recent CWS appearances.
A little more input from guys that really know the nuances of the college game.
Some of the sideline reports are silly.
    Just a thought.

Also I understand that attendance was down. Economy / fuel prices?

Have you heard college coaches speak? There is not a group of coaches that can compete with the baseball guys on giving the most cliche's.

College is fortunate to have Patrick and Hersheiser do the games. Those guys are great! The sideline reporters should be banned from all sports.

We want Harold Reynolds the best college guy in the business...heck, the best baseball guy in the business.

    Whatever he did...I forgive him

    Right back at you Braves!.......

.....we luv ya man! Big Harold is hands down the best in the business. I remember sitting with my dad, pro baller/coach and hearing play by play from curt gowdy, tony koubek, atleast I think that was who was on the air. I remember laying in the bed as a 7 yr old with a transistor radio in my ear picking up the cleveland indians games at night....I was in Raleigh. There is NO SUBSTITUTE for a radio broadcast of a ball game into the ear of a kid dreaming. I love this game!!! Fishman

I have to disagree about Mike Patrick. I've always thought he was terrible..no matter what sport he is calling. It would be nice to have someone who was more knowledable about college baseball. Orel is very good. I wish he would comment more about the nuances of the game for those of us who are still learning. Also, I'm not sure this should be considered an upset. FSU is the real deal.

Why do you consider Patrick as terrible?

The fact that Fresno achieved something no other school in the history of modern college sports (lowest seeded Natonal Champion) makes this (I don't know what else you could call it) but an upset.

I think this is another mitigating factor why there should be playoffs in college football. It's not about the best team through out the year, but the best team at the end of the year. It gives every team a chance to improve from the beginning to the end without ramifications to one's record at the brginning.

Patrick has always struck me as an announcer who doesn't seem to know much about what he is announcing. He makes numerous mistakes, and to me, is just generally not appealing. If FSU had won maybe one, or two games over more highly ranked opponents to win a national championship I would consider it an upset. These guys have won game after game over supposedly superior opponents. They've done it with exceptional play in every facet of the game. If they were so inferior relative to all the other playoff teams, I think it would have manifested itself before now. Just my two cents.

I don't care for Patrick very much either. Hershiser was fine. I couldn't stand to listen to Barry Larkin during the UNC games. He was totally in love with himself. If I heard 1 more thing about his gold gloves, or going to Shaq's house and playing basketball with Tiger Woods, I think I would have vomitted. I ended up turning down the sound and putting on UNC's radio broadcast with Jones Angel and Adam Lucas. They were very good.

Yeah, I can understand what you mean. I guess I've liked him because he has always been unselfish with his partner. Some of those play by play guys are selfish with air time, but Patrick doesn't seem to have a large ego, unlike others. Despite his mistakes, the guy really does spend a lot of time doing his homework and spends an inordinate amount of time trying to get personal information on the players that would enhance the game. (most announcers let their researchers do background info, not Patrick) Plus, the guy has come back from a major stroke, so I'm pulling for him.

As far as Fresno State, imo, they were not the most talented team. They were the best team at the right time....and that's the purpose of playoffs.
