    Ok, a little back story:

My younger brother plays in the Great Lakes Summer League. He joined the team late and his team just offered him a 10 day contract. His first outing he pitched 4 innings and k'd 9. No ERs. 2 days later the Head Coach got a new job and left the team. The new coach has used my brother very sparingly, an inning a week or sometimes every 2 weeks. Hes thrown a total of 11.2 innings and k'd 19.

Now for the question: His current team has never offered him anything after that 10 day contract. He has 2 other GLL teams that want to sign him. He has been told that his current team needs to sign him to a full contract and then cut him for him to be able to sign with another team. Is this true? IMO, since his team has not offered him a full contract he should be able to pick up and sign with anyone he wants.

I have emailed the commissioner of the league but haven't gotten a response yet. Thanks in advance for any insight provided.

10 day contracts are just that. Of course, the league may have a different rule within for a player to sign with another team in the league. However, if he chose to play in another league, he is not obligated to his current team to stay.

10 day contracts are fill in roles until the full contract guys get there. Many times when a player produces in that position, he is offered a full contract.
