I figure since the game is probably over by now I won't jinx them but I wanted to give some props to the Greensboro team going for the Colt World Series crown tonight in Indiana.

They have a great team with some great pitching. Warren Slack was on the mound tonight. He led SW Guilford last year and Austin Moyer from SE Guilford got the win last night to put them in the finals. I saw Mpyer pitch this year against Ragsdale and he had them guessing all night.

Here's open they bring the :trophy: back to North Carolina.

    Greensboro team can make history

LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Manager Alan Ashkinazy wanted his Greensboro baseball team to do more than show up at the Colt World Series after going winless last year.

His team could make history tonight.

Austin Moyer struck out 10, and Cameron Cockman drove in four runs to lead Greensboro past Lafayette, Ind., 8-0, Tuesday night as the Colts reached the finals of this tournament for 15- and-16-year-olds.

Greensboro will attempt to win its first Colt World Series title since 1965 when it meets three-time defending champion Tampa, Fla. Greensboro beat Tampa in the series' opening game. That's Tampa's only loss in its last 20 Colt World Series games.

Greensboro's charge comes after the team went 0-3 in this tournament each of the past two years. Nine of Greensboro's players were on last year's team. They enter tonight's title game 5-0.

"When we first started, I said don't just come here to make a good showing because we were winless last year, we're here to win it,'' said Ashkinazy, who also coaches Grimsley's baseball team.

"As every game went on, we were saying, remember what we're here for, remember what we're here for,'' he said.

Lafayette won't forget Greensboro. Moyer's slider kept Lafayettbatters off balance and hushed the partisan crowd of 3,115 at Loeb Stadium. Moyer threw a no-hitter for 41/3 innings and did not allow a Lafayette runner beyond second base in the complete-game performance.

Moyer of Southeast Guilford remembers last year's experience well.

"We had a pretty good team, we just didn't have the timely hits, timely plays,'' he said. "It was real tough (last year) but knowing we were coming back and we were going to have a better team felt good.''

Moyer benefited from Greensboro's offense. Cockman of Southeast Guilford and Alan Craven of Grimsley had three hits each to pace Greensboro's 13-hit attack.

Cockman's single scored Brandon McKinney of Northwest Guilford in the first inning. Cockman added a run-scoring double in the third inning and drove in Grimsley's Clint Moore and Moyer in the fourth.

The 10-team tournament, which includes teams from Europe, Puerto Rico, Mexico and the United States, ends with the two best teams meeting in the finals.

Tampa can't wait after beating Morgan Hills, Calif., 10-6 in Tuesday's other semifinal.

"We looked at that first game and said we didn't do the right things, we didn't do our routine stuff and we wanted Greensboro in that final game,'' Tampa manager Robbie Chavis said of the 5-2 loss to Greensboro on Aug. 2.

"We made a lot of mistakes and we need to come back and show that we're a better team than what we showed against them.''

Tampa is expected to start Vinney Lally, a left-hander who had a three-hit, 12-strikeout performance in his only appearance in the tournament.

Ashkinazy says that his team's offense will need to be stronger to win tonight.

"We're not going to beat them in a low-scoring game,'' said Ashkinazy, who will start pitcher Warren Slack of Southwest Guilford tonight.

"I think if it's a low-scoring close game, their experience might be over our experience.''

    Craven isn't worried.

"We've got the pitching,'' he said. "If we can keep it under two errors and two walks ... it's pretty much our game.''

when will I ever learn. The jinx is strong in me.

As I was typing this last night they were probably in the middle of their seventh inning melt down.

Oh well it was still a great run - and losing to the now four time in a row champion and being the only team to beat them in 21 games at the world series is saying something.

I love seeing the crowd numbers too - 2500 to 3000 people to watch you play when you are 15 is pretty awesome
