Don't know the situation, but if it is more than half the starters (min 5 players) that sounds strange. Have seen 1 or 2 girls, but not that many. I have also seen commitment go the other way. Seen teams that play all year and come state tounament time add 2 or 3 players and those get the bulk if not all the playing time.

Here is the situation. We have 12 on the roster. 7 of the 12 are starters and the remaing positions are filled at gametime. Four (4) of our starters decided a beach trip was in order on that date. Our schedule is announced well in advance of scheduled games.

Looks like you are going to have to swallow your loses on this one, or recruit 4 girls and play on. You might find that you like the 4 you recruit better than the 4 who went to the beach. If so good for you, because at that point they learn that everyone is replaceable.

In closing, I would to say that we played in the tournamet with our committed players, and a few borrowed players. Thanks to everyone for all the feedback.

    unbelievable!

My DD learned about the Blues "work ethic" about a week ago! Wish it had been possible to continue that. She really respects those folks, players and coaches.

I know ya'll sometimes get tired of me referencing baseball and my son's past experiences... but this type thing doesn't happen with the elite baseball showcase teams. I can just see AP's reaction if four Dirtbags told him they were heading to the beach instead of a tournament. He'd probably say "Have fun, don't bother coming back."

During my son's four years of high school, he NEVER went to the beach or anywhere else during the spring, summer or fall baseball seasons. His "vacations" were tournaments... and that's where he wanted to be! After his senior year ended, and he had signed his scholly to continue playing in college, he went to the beach for a week. He had earned it!

My DD saw this dedication and I would be shocked if she ever tried to get out of an obligation like this. A coach would never have to deal with it if it did happen, it would be resolved at home.

    Lots

There are lots of players who play softball all year and do it because they want to not because they have to. My DD doesnt want a prize for missing the beach or the Volleyball team but it would be nice to have a team with team mates with the same commitment.
