for the love of the game. teaching young ladies not only about softball but life lessons as well. but im not like most, although my daughter is a very good player, i do not want her to get a softball scholarship, and if offered we would decline. now a merit scholarship thats different. her mother and i want good grades and to graduate in her chosen field, at the collage of her choice.

    I bet I'm not alone

I do agree with 99.9% of everything stated so far. But honestly, The one overwhelming reason ( for me not my dd ) is that feeling I get when my dd is in a clutch situation. The same feeling I had as a kid waiting in line to ride a roller coaster for the first time, or the last 30 minutes before I got married.
    :10_2_6:

This is not the reason my dd and I do this week in and week out, but it is one of the reasons that I am addicted to it. I'll be willing to bet that some of you can't stand that feeling.

The feeling of anticipation on the way to the games, the ride home when everyone is sleeping except you, cuz you have to drive, and the friendships you make through the years. Some of our family's closest buddies are people we met through softball. A few are not involved anymore, and some are with different teams, but we still have a lot of history.

All of the lessons in life that are not taught, but learned by experience. Starting off by trying something new ... then the committment, focus, competition, rewards and sorrows, commaraderie, an understanding of team and self, and the cumulative understanding that life is greater than ones self ... and involves lots of others around you.
IMHO that is what softball has given my girls ... and renewed in me.
I see many adults on a daily basis who would have benefited greatly from this type of life experience ... gained at an early age.
