With a complete field renovation and having a young team with only 2 seniors, Andy never killed anyone! hahahaha Just kidding. In his first year as a head coach he had many challenges. With the help of a lot of parents, the field was completely redone. It is a great place to play..Finished with a decent record..going to the states.. The boys all like each other and next year looks good.. Andy Harper gets my vote!

    Thanks Andy.

    Coach of the Year

Mark Mennitt of Marvin Ridge High School took a team from a brand new school without any seniors and won the South Piedmont Conference. Starters included 4 juniors, 3 sophmores, and 2 freshmen. Total varsity experience less than 5 games last year.

I haven't kept up much this year, but I've been impressed with Coach Bell and Coach Blowe in the PAC-6. I would be glad for any child of mine to play for either of these men. Riverside is becoming a perennial power and Jordan always fields a quality club.

As for jobs this year, In the MECA-7, I second Coach Brown. Wow, what a first year at the helm.

Coach Brian Hightower from East Rowan.
Gets the most out of his players and really gives East an advantage in games because he is so smart. Has led East Rowan to a 22-2 record and # 1 ranking in the state in 3A.

    Big South 3A/4A

Randy Sellers- East Gaston High School. After his first year resulted in only 4 wins and no state playoffs Coach Sellers led the Warriors to a 15-8 record overall and a #1 seed in the 4A portion of the conference. He led the team to a victory in the Charlotte Observer Easter Tournament that included two very good teams in Forestview and South Point that the Warriors defeated. Coach Sellers had hugh shoes to fill when Coach Van Dyke left 2 years ago but after the first year was rough its amazing to see the players respond to him and play very well. I know when the voting comes out he might not win this award due to their 3rd place finish overall in the conference but still its a great effort.

I am sure after tonight coach Cozort would not feel he deserves it. It looked like tonight he took this one hard. One of the players said it was his last game at East Burke. What is the story there? I know he reads this so good luck coach.

have to say that he should get coach of the year. he took a team that only won one game as freshman, and 3 games as soph. to a team that finishes 2nd to the number 7 team in the nation. to me that says the man is putting his work in to make these guys into great ball players.
