Playoff Dates for 2004 Baseball Season

1st Round, May 17th
District, May 20th
Sectional, May 24th
Regional, May 27th
State, June 3rd-4th

For 2004 season, still limited to 32 total teams per Division (1A, 2A, etc), 16 teams from the East/West each.

No expansion to larger brackets yet as was given to Soccer (a.k.a. Spotted Communist Ball) who have the addition of a 2nd Round before Districts, potentially doubling participation (64 teams total) or providing 1st round byes for half the teams (increasing participation to 48 teams total).

 

Question--- what is the breakdown this year for each conference and the number of qualifiers for the playoffs?

 

NCBBF - The dates you have listed are Monday/Thursday games. Is this correct? No Tuesday/Friday dates?!

 

state championships

Word is that the NCHSAA cannot secure the sites for the finals on June 4-6. The championship series maybe backed up a week. This may allow a best of 3 East and West regionals. Of course this is all speculation at this point. No decision has been made.

 

If the NCHSAA were committed to a policy of fairness in locating their state championships, conflicts like that wouldn't occur. However, with the current, cozy relationship between the NCHSAA and the Raleigh Convention and Visitors' Bureau, this sort of thing will happen.

State championships should be moved around the state out of a sense of fairness.

 

Prepster's right. With the numer of minor league stadiums and college venues around the state, the champioships should move.

By the way, I checked the NCHSSA website and the correct dates for the playoffs are:

May 18 - 1st Round
May 21 - District
May 25 - Sectional
May 28 - Regional
June 4-5 - State Championship
