West Stanly wins 4th straight RRC title by defeating Charlotte Catholic 12-4 Friday. This is really a pleasant surprise as they are a very young team. Sophmores that have played big this year are ss-Matthew Burrelson, 2nd baseman Nathan Furr, Outfielder Quan Sturdivant, and last but not least Wil Huneycutt 6-2 record with an ERA of 1.27. Juniors, Tyler Almond 7-0 as a starter, Tyler Smith-catcher coming back from two broken bones in his catching hand, Kurt Benton good outfielder better pitcher, one tough out at the plate, Jake Byrd, runs like a deer very solid all around outfielder. Senior Leadership Jeremy Eudy has played great at first base good left handed stick. Cody Eudy-solid player not flashy just gets the job done at third base and at the plate. And very last but not least Head Coach David Lee as he is the straw that stirs this West Stanly's teams drink.

How strong/weak is the RRC this season. West seems to have beaten up on everyone this season. Catholic seems to have come from nowhere to be competetive...but it seems like there is no one else of any balance/consistency in the league as there has been in the past.

Interesting comments outlaw. How compettive is the conference? North Stanly is having growing pains under first year coach J.P. Culp, Forest Hills is a solid team from top to bottom but they are alot like West in that they are very young. Catholic is competive with any of the teams mentioned above. West Montgomery is a very underated team. Monroe is very weak,( I call it like I see it), Mount Pleasant is a good hitting team, they lack pitching. Now with that said, how competitve is the conference? Overall on a scale of 1-10 I would rank it about a six. Last year I feel like it was a stronger league based on the talent level throughout the conference. This is by no means a slight to any of this years teams. They are by the most part young teams with alot of underclassmen on them. As far as consistency I believe you have to look at he coaches of all these schools. West Stanly, David Lee is a very tough and demanding coach. I think one of his players put it best when he said "He is the type of coach that you love and hate, love because he makes you want to work harder to be better, hate him because he does not accept anything less than your best even if you don't think you can do anymore. North Stanly J.P. Culp with time will build a program to be proud of, solid baseball coach. Forest Hills, ( I believe the head coach is Jerome Cannon) has done a nice job of blending the team together. This team could be the sleeper come tournament time. Catholic is always solid, some years are better than others like most teams. Mount Pleasant is a little down this year. West Montgomery probally had one of the best pitchers in the conference in Austin Harris. Monroe needs to rekindle its baseball tradition.
In Stanly County, West and North seem to have the strongest feeder programs for their high schools. West in Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth/AAU/USSSA.
North Stanly in Dixie Youth/Boys/Majors/AAU/USSSA. Not to slight Albemarle or South Stanly, it is just my opinion that baseball is stronger overall in these two parts of the county.
Any of these four teams could win the conference tournament ( West,Forest Hills, Catholic, North). So is it competitve, yes. Is it as strong as years past, no.Will it be in over the next two years. Most definetely.
