I have no contact nor any affiliation with the Copperhead organization at all, but everything I have heard has been positive. I mentioned in another thread that I believe the Copperheads will become Charlotte's version of East Cobb...but hopefully better run than those rascals :D

Does amybody have an update on the plans involving Ray Durham and the building of a new facility?

I can tell you this. Ray and his wife recently seperated so his plans are at a hault right now. There is another major leaguer interested that has ties with the Copperheads already. I wont mention his name for it is not official yet. Right now the land is in the process of being sold to the town of Cornelius. THe town owns land beside the proposed spot. This would allow the town to use gov. money to build fields. The proposal now is 8 fields. I dont think you see that anywhere. Right now the plan is that the COpperheads will run this complex and who will run tournaments there. THe indoor facility will also be at this location. I dont think this can be matched anywhere, even at East Cobb. Hopefully this will go through. IT will open up alot of opportunites for the Copperheads and the Town.

    Beware

There are many issues that would have to be addressed with the town if this should go through. Each of those local communities have contracts with co-sponsored programs: CLNYA, DYBA, HYAA and even SOG. The Copperhead program is an outstanding program for all their age groups. But understand that you will be competing for field space with all these local Rec programs, which are wonderful in their own right. And I am sure that the town will be there with their hand out, asking for filed usage fees etc.

When you are dealing with tax payer money, everyone wants their fare share of the field space. The Parks and Rec Depts will have a hard time managing this type situation. I surely hope it all works out.

There was about 95 kids last night to tryout for the 15-18. THere were 10 college coaches and 3 pro scouts. It was a good turnout and it went pretty well.

    Good Talent

I was there last night also. Based on the talent that was on display, the Copperheads should be able to field very competitive teams. They ran the players through the "pro style tryout". Tonight they are going to split the players into different age groupings and play "intra-age" games starting with the 18 year old group around 3:30pm and the 15/16 year olds will be starting around 6:00pm.
