Roland is usually their closer. His era is 0.24 on the year. He has thrown about 25-30 innings with a couple of saves. He throws the ball really hard, but he is such a good shortstop. Trey Holmes is the number 2, but is recovering from an elbow injury last year. He was a Division I prospect on the hill until, the injury last year. This slowed his recruitment and he has signed with Pitt CC for the next two years. He is a lefty with a record of around 4-0 with an ERA of around 3. I guess the number three is between Cody Laws (8-0 1.50, and a perfect game) and Kent Basinger. Basinger dislocated his knee cap the second game of the year and has slowly worked back into the rotation. Besides Shive (who usually always throws a complete game), East's other starters (Holmes, Laws, Basinger) usually go five, then the bullpen takes over. Next year, Shive, Basinger, and Laws all return, plus they have a few great arms on the jayvee team (namely Will Johnson). I'm not sure who they will throw on Tuesday. All are quality pitchers who will throw at the next level.

Did Will Johnson throw against Mooresville JV to give them their 1 loss on the year?

must be exciting for east rowan fans to have that many quality arms you can rely on. sounds to me like shive is the bonafide ace that will throw every-other-game but they have plenty of other guys capable of getting them through the games in the even numbered rounds. they will also be hell on wheels should they get to the best 2 out of 3 series in the semifinals and finals.

I'm not sure about who Johnson threw against on jayvee. He did come up and pitch against North Davidson when Shive, Basinger, Holmes were out with nagging injuries. He pitched well against one of the best 4A teams in the state.

After spewing about East Rowan's pitching, I found out today that Roland is probably going to start on Tuesday. So much for the closer only role. Micah Jarrett (WFU signee) would move in from CF to play SS if this is indeed the case.

i may have to get out there and watch roland throw then. does this push holmes back to game 3 or do you think they would resume with shive in round 3 if they win game 2

I would think they would throw Shive as much as possible on adequate rest. They need to get through Piedmont first. East shouldn't have any problems in this game, but they need to hit much better than game 1. I would think that in game #2 if East gets ahead by a good distance, you may see a lot of guys throw an inning.

I agree that East must hit the ball better than they did the first round. They had trouble with that pitcher throwing lots of curves. Does anyone know who Piedmont will throw and what kind of pitcher he is like?
