I've been thinking about this question for a long time. Here we have the largest Community College in the NC system sitting in arguably the largest hotbed of HS baseball talent in the state, let alone maybe the southeast, and they don't have a baseball team! Facilities are right next door at Independence Park for practice with plenty of game fields available in the city at no cost as they are funded by the state educational system. Think of the possibilities! As it stands now the players that fail to qualify for freshman eligibility right out of HS have to go all over the state to play JUCO ball. Plenty of retired coaches in this area would die for the opportunity to coach this team and colleges and universities would flock here to see the kids play! Cost is not an issue as players could be charged a fee to play that wouldn't even come close to what they would be paying in rent somewhere else. Let's talk about this and hopefully get some answers as to why it hasn't already happened!

Agree with you 100%. Always thought this would be a great opportunity for a coach wanting to get into the collegiate level - would tempt any of us retired guys to rethink things a bit. Anyone know why they haven't pushed for this?

I think you need to take that job ASU86!! I've heard a rumor that York Tech in Rock Hill is looking at starting a baseball program. You're right -- if they can have a team, CPCC should definitely have one.

Was part of the same discussion years ago with football at the community college level. Sounds like a great idea for all involved!!!

From stateuniversity website....you can play intramural soccer

Below is from a website describing their sports opportunities. Which....are slim. Ok, ok, ok....anorexic?
So, the powers that be may be worried about letting ANY sports start at CPCC.

    Athletics

Though Central Piedmont Community College doesn’t participate in an intercollegiate sports program, they do offer men’s and women’s intramural soccer. There are also three fitness centers that students may utilize with a student ID.

I bet if the right coach approached them with a plan...he could make it happen.

    Great question ASU!!!
