The Crest kids saw the sign on the internet that someone had made out of the Reynolds sign. They took it to heart. Even if it's a fake, you've got highschool kids getting on the internet at school and at home thinking it's the real deal.

That was the reason both squads didn't shake hands. Coach Kirby chewed teh Crest kids out on the field right after the game, and from what I have heard, met with the Reynolds coach after the game.

I have been to football games all over the state. I have seen dirty teams, and I have seen teams that are class acts all the way. But people are acting like Crest in the dirtiest team in the state. I'm not saying that they are angels, but few are. I know that I have seen kids do things on the field that I don't approve of for Crest, but I also know that I have seen those same kids paying for it on practice on Monday.

I think we have a situation where Crest got comfortable in their success. I know that there was a checklist in place. I have even talked to Coach Kirby about this happening at Crest when you hear that it has gone on somewhere else. He was confident that Crest had it's ducks in a row to keep it from happening.

Do people really believe that Roy Kirby would jepordize his job, trouble for the school he attended to cover grades for a kid. I know they have had players not play in the past for grades. Why would this time be different? Some say that it's because it was a star player. I have heard from some folks very close to the situation that it wasn't a star player. The kid didn't even start. I can't confirm or deny that, but I trust the folks that told me. I have also seen the work that Roy Kirby has done behind the scenes for kids that need the help. Not only in the world of football.

Roy Kirby is a husband, a father, and a friend to many. He loves being in Boiling Springs, and has had the chance to leave for higher paying, higher profile jobs. But his family is here. His dad was standout player at Gaffney, and later a preacher in the area. Preacher and Mrs Kirby are in poor health now. Why would he put into jeopardy a job that allows him to stay close to them as well as be successful? His wife is the minister of music at their church and loves it. Again, why put that into jeopardy?

I may know Roy Kirby better than others and it is more that just the football field, heck our kids go to preschool together, but I really believe that an honest mistake was made. Are their questions, yes their is. Some that I would like answered, and hopefully those answers will come sooner rather than later. And somebody will have to be held accountable. If there was a big cover-up then jobs should be lost. But if this was a mistake made on paperwork, then you fix the problem and move on. Those wheels are already in motion.

Somebody wanted to act like there was a big riff now with Coach Kirby and Coach Ellis. Coach Ellis has been a huge supporter of the football team and Coach Kirby of the basketball team. Both send their kids to play the other sport. Coach Ellis was recognized with an award at the football banquet last year by Coach Kirby. Coach Ellis is always working the football games and they both know that success in one can spread to the other.

I too will sit and watch as it unfolds, but I know that when the Crest coaches found out about this, they said that they didn't want to put the future of Crest football in a bad light. That a wrong had been found and it had to be reported. How easy it would have been to play out the season, and then pop up and say "Look what we found. Sorry about that." I think word may have gotten back to the Crest staff late Thursday, early Friday. They then had to confirm what was going on, and as soon as they did, reported it.

This has been a tough time for all that are close to the Crest program. My entire family went to Crest.
My step-kids attended Crest. I want my children to attend Crest. Our loyalties to Crest High run far deeper than the football field. My heart bleeds for the kids that got the news yesterday. The kids that couldn't hold back tears as adults tried to explain what had happened. If you are a parent, put yourself in that spot.

The Crest community must rally around each other and these kids. I can tell you that this already happening. And things are being done to make sure that this doesn't happen again. I am a true believer that Good will come out of bad situation, and this is a dark time for Crest High.

I know that some are going to blast you regardless, and I didn't mean to mention the Reynolds players name. I was typing and trying to get ready for work and wrestle 2 kids. I'm glad that somebody caught that, but I will not sit by and not defend my school. Others would do the samething. Esp. when faced this type of problem.

I'll just say, that I'm still a Charger, loud and proud, and will be even with this is over.

Again good luck to all of the teams playing next week. I am planning on being in Chapel Hill for the 2A title games.

we feel your pain as well, smash and couldnt agree with you more! Great post and thanks for sharing!

i know Roy and Bill and any rumor pitting them two against each other is just that and when you see one on campus, you will eventually see the other supporting their young men.

Sorry, I don't feel any Crest pain. I was on the field as well, and I know what I heard, and I know that ACR and NO other opponent of ACR has EVER acted that way. Say what you will, put it on us if you want, but Asheville, TCR, Freedom, and any other rival of ours has been here and I have never seen their players act that way and I know ours haven't. If our guys were acting in a bad manner it was because they were given a reason to, they didn't start it I can assure you. As for the coaches meeting after the game. NO they didn't I was with our coaches from the time the game was over until long after your team buses had left as we were in the locker room with the kids. Finally, as for that stupid sign your fans keep talking about, an ASHEVILLE fan did that as a JOKE! HOW many times do we have to repeat that before you guys realize that no one at ACR was involved in that? We even made that clear prior to the game! Let's just let this die, THANKFULLY IT'S OVER, and I and all the ACR fans can only hope ACR NEVER has to play Crest again.

Crest

Crest was new to our conference this year, we at Huss played them and won, but outside of the usual jawing, I didnt see a thing different from any other team in our conference or any highschool team I have ever watched. Of course, I wasnt at your game, and i dont dispute what your say, but maybe they're not all bad.

And I'm on the other side. I have the utmost respect for AC. I wish they had been in the old NW4A together. One only gets better playing the best, and usually AC is the squad that's bringing it for the MTN's in 4A. We will have to agree to disagree on them not meeting again. I wasn't sure about the Coaches meeting. I had left the team at that point and went back to work on other things. That was what was expressed to me. That the coaches spoke before Crest left.

Looks like you guys are going to have a solid basketball season. Good luck.

I have had both Crest and ACR as an official and I can say that the coaches from both sides are a class act. I would gladly call any of their games. Both coaches get their kids fired up for ballgames and prepare them extremely well. I don't know what happened, but I had to put in an officials point of view of the coaching staffs.

It is unfortunate that Crest had to do what they did, but hey, THEY DID. Props to them. I have friends that coach at schools in other areas and they indicated to me that they are not sure their schools would have done the same. I think it shows a tremendous amount of class to turn yourself in. You may not have won the title Crest, but I think you showed a lot of people what is important. Honesty matters in today's world and you are an example of that. I hope the young man receives some support. You know he feels terrible for what has happened and is probably reluctant to go back to school Monday. I'm praying for you buddy.

Good luck to you guys next year. I hope I am fortunate enough to work a game or two of yours in the future (both Crest and ACR).
