    Responsibility/Accountability

It seems like the bottom line in all this is "lack of responsibility" - an ever common theme these days.

There was an earlier post on here, something about how a kid would try and get away with whatever he could (or something close to that) - what a sad thing to think about - I mean just take a minute to get your head around that - what kind of kids are we raising today?

The pertinent points seem to be:

    A. There are rules in place governing sports
    B. The coaches and administrative staff know these rules (they should be the ones responsible for making sure their athletes and parents also know the rules)
    C. The kid knew he had failed a class (if that was the actual reason - regardless, every kid knows his own grades - so this kid would've known he was up the creek)
    D. With the technology today, I'm pretty darn sure anyone in the school's administrative staff knew the kids grades well before report cards would have been issued (this would include the coach). Shouldn't the AD have someone responsible for keeping a constant check on athletes' grades? After all, sports are played year-round during school - grades change every grading period - so where's the double-check?
    E. We as parents are responsible for our children - the parent(s) of this child knew about his grade - why didn't the parent(s) approach the administration?
    F. This situation should never have happened.

Anyone ever heard of ACCOUNTABILITY???????????????????? It used to be something that people prided themselves on - a mark of distinction. Obviously it's a trait that is fast becoming extinct.

When do we, as individuals, start taking RESPONSIBILITY for our actions?(Yeah, sure, the coach finally admitted to the infraction, but, IMHO, it was way too late and should've never gotten as far as it did.)

When do we, as parents, begin to teach our children ACCOUNTABILITY for their actions?

When do we, as game officials, really take on RESPONSIBILITY, and really penalize players for UNSPORTSMANLIKE conduct?

Until there is RESPONSIBILITY and ACCOUNTABILITY, things like this will continue to happen.

Please show me where I have "attacked" any individual in this thread and I will gladly issue a public apology. The only thing remotely close to what you are suggesting is when I told Intimidator Coach to get over himself. It's one thing if you disagree with me, but it's quite another to say I'm attacking people when I'm not.

    At last, a quality post!

Fact is that Crest officials (Coaches/AD) knew about the grades as did everyone else. They covered it up. When someone within cried foul, they were left with no choice but to make it public. There will be changes at Crest, hopefully for the better.

    Smash:

Great post from earlier, but good people are capable of doing wrong things. I think this is the case here. Sorry, but I just disagree.

    Crest Disqualified

Your are exactly right "JINX" this whole situation should have never have
happened. Eligibility for fall sports is determined by spring semester grades.
Its real simple....you take 4 classes you must pass 3 to be eligible......
If you take a summer school class , that summer school class must be added
to your transcipt and therefore if you failed lets say english and took it in
summer school and passed it, it must be added to your transcript to replace
the failing grade before you are allowed to participate in a fall sport............
It is the responsibility of the head coach to do his eligibility before the season
starts and the athletic director to check this ...........that is the bottom line.
This player was never eligible to participate............ and yes it is unfortunate to the other Crest players,,but it was there coach and adm.
that caused this....how about the other teams who had to suffer that had to
suffer because of this...lets face it Crest should have never been in the playoffs...there is a them out there that should have made the playoffs in
Crest's place...those kids were denied a chance to go to the playoffs.........
How about the 3 teams Crest beat in the playoffs,,,,our team for example..
lets face it going to the playoffs in football has not exactly been an every
year event in South Caldwell football...and making it to the third round .......
then we go to Crest ,,,and yes we got beat ... there in no disputing that....
but we shouldn't have even been there.................they shouldn't have been
playing......that aside from the fact ..that they show no class,,, without
    a doubt the worst I have ever seen....cheap , dirty , mouthy....I could go
    on and on..
WE have 22 Senoirs on this team,,,,kids who have been instrumental ,,
along with Coach Carter in completely turning this football program around..
They have worked so hard ,,,,countless hours in the weight room, that
most people don't even realize....and to this it end in this way...makes me
    sick to my stomach........ :thud:

How in the hell is that a personal attack? How is that any different than a reporter reporting the news? In this case it was me reporting what happened. You need to thicken your skin, CFBALL. That is nowhere close to being a personal attack. You are obviously biased and can't handle a difference of opinion. You'll have to do better than that to get an apology.

    Sorry!
