I also heard they are going to make the face mask mandatory. Don't like that one either. we're not playing football[/QUOTE]
Wouldn't let'em bat without it. I know a little girl that has a steel plate in her cheek because of a wild pitch....Great rule......My opinion!!!

sorry, sometimes hard to know serious from not. Because I was contacted 10 to 15 times right after it went up. People who are eager to get things become serious. :nono:

    Should Girls be Treated differently?

I'm as much for safety as anyone, however I'm not a big supporter of adding or changing rules just because they are girls. If you teach and practice the CORRECT way of bunting, turning away from a pitch, or even runinng to 1st correctly, I don't think you need anymore safety rules in fastpitch as you do baseball.

I don't think we will ever see the boys weraring facemasks or having a white/orange double 1st base. Teach and practice the correct skills, and the injuries will be reduced greatly. Just my opinion.

I do know that a resloution was passed in December at the NFCA meeting in Las Vegas to recommend the use of metal spikes in high school fastpitch. Players on most 18U (especially out west) have been wearing metal spikes for quite sometime.

I agree....I think much of this comes from rec ball (not bashing, just observing) where so many rules are "created" to make the game safer or more fair and then as the kids get older (and their parents) don't really know the rules of the game or the fundamentals....

About the metal spikes...why would the "recommend" the metal spikes? That just sounds so anti safety to me....

I was wondering the same about the spikes. The only thing I can come up with is maybe most, if not all college teams wear metal spikes and if you're not used to wearing them, you can mess up a knee really fast. Maybe too many girls were getting hurt when the changed over to metal in college.

    Again, just a thought.

This is kind of like the discussion we had about the safety of the hot bats. The serious injuries are very rare and not enough to warrant face mask in my opinion. I don't want to see my sons or daughter hurt nor anyone else but this is sports it is going to happen. We can't put every player in a bubble to prevent them from getting hurt. I know I will catch some flack for this but where does the safety issue stop. Next will all the infielders have to wear mask, each plyer wear shinn gaurds and elbow pads. Will they end up looking like hockey players. I know when the girls on my daughters teams heard about nsa and highschool going to require facemask none of them were happy. This should be left up to the individual player in my opinion. As stated you will never see the guys have to wear them
