The sanctioning bodies are more then likely reacting to pressure from their insurance companies. its a a world of litigation and people are quick to sue anyone and every one. My travel team won helmets that happened to have the face mask and our HS got new helmets last year, they also had attached face masks. Neither team cared for them but got used to them real quick They became part of the game and were invisible in a very short time. In fact after a few fouls or missed bunts bounced off the mask the majority of players mentioned that they were glad they had them. And all the parents liked them because it protects that $4000 + smile.
    Just an observation.

masks are definitely needed! witnessed way Too Many slappers being hit in the face by quality 18u pitchers tried to hit their spots(slappers weakness).

Dawg is correct, the players adjust and are thankful!!

Face mask should be made mandatory! The Cobras went with them 2 yrs ago,my DD just had her braces put on.She wasn't crazy bout the mask, but when that 1st foul came back & hit her mask, she was very thankful for it.At the end of last season in NSA's Sweet 16 tour, the catcher for Rand. Rage was hit by with a foul ball while batting ,she required 13 stitches inside her mouth.I bet the Rage will be wearing mask this year.I personally don't give a hoot what baseball does, but mine will be wearing the mask.Go Cobras !!!

Letz get this thread back on topic:

A "crow hop" is defined as a replant of the pivot foot prior to releasing the ball. This can be done by sliding the foot in front of the plate; lifting the pivot foot and stepping forward; and /or jumping forward with the pivot foot off the rubber prior to starting the pitch.

A "leap" is when both feet are airborne prior to releasing the ball. The pivot foot must stay in contact with the ground as it drags away from the plate until the the lead foot touches the ground. If both feet are off the ground at the same time during the delivery, it is a leap and an illegal pitch shall be called.

    continue.........

    Exactly,
and yes, it will become legal in 2006. Whether you wear a mask while crow hopping is a different issue. Personally, the more masks the better, I always say.
