The place looked great I thought. good to see some old friends and great to see one of my favorite players ever pitch even though the results and support wasn't what she would have liked I'm sure. . Hang in there Evanna and coach Berry.

Also great to talk to Taylor Berry last night. What an inspiration she is. A truely special kid despite all the troubles she has had, never stops smiling it seems. Had a blast, and the place looked great under the lights.

Overall, we enjoyed getting to play under the lights. We only have 4 players that have actually played night games before high school, so we will respond better. Hats off to Bandys they hit really well. We just had too many errors from folks that normally make those types of plays. The defense let Evanna down. She was a little off, but that is no excuse for the types of errors we had. Bandys is a solid team, Coach Berry will make adjustments and we will get better. NC is still 7-3 in the CVAC so all is not lost.

Special thanks to Stickwolf for bringing up some of his team to support Evanna, that meant a lot to her as a senior. Hopefully, our defense will play better.

    Hope this helps Joe:

    NC 4
    Patton 2

NC hosts Saint Wed., West Caldwell Thusday. Play Saint and Hickory next week. Shouldn't effect our standings a great deal

    Saint rallies against rival !

    Saint rallies against rival

The St. Stephens Lady Indians seniors needed a rally in extra innings to earn a victory in their final game at home. St. Stephens defeated rival Fred T. Foard 2-1 in 10 innings Tuesday, and it came at the hands of senior.
St. Stephens’ Stephanie Simmons, who will attend Wingate in fall on a softball scholarship, hit a single through the left side of the infield for the game-winning RBI.
“It was very nerve wracking, but I knew I had the confidence to do it,” she said after the game. “I just made it happen. It’s just amazing. There are no words to describe it.”
The Lady Indians had three straight singles with no outs from their No. 2, 3 and 4 hitters to end the game. Skye Robin lead off the 10th with a single, and she advanced to second on a single by Holly Jones. Robin scored the game-winning run from second on Simmons’ RBI single. The singles in the 10th were the only hits by Robin, Jones and Simmons against Foard on Tuesday.
Robin sprinted all the way to the backstop while she tossed her helmet and was lifted in the air by shortstop Trenae Jones as her teammates celebrated the win.
“This is just incredible,” Simmons said. “We waited three years, and we finished behind them. And our fourth year, our senior year, we wanted this thing more than anything. We wanted it, and we just took it.”
St. Stephens coach Jan Davis called the win huge because of the leadership shown by the team’s seniors.
Davis added the Lady Indians, the No. 4 team in the most recent available state 3A poll, are starting to play more as a team now and pull together after mistakes happen on the field.
Foard coach Jennifer Cook said the Lady Tigers should be proud they pushed the Lady Indians to 10 innings. The game also marked the Lady Tigers’ second loss in two days on a walk-off single.
“It’s unbelievable,” Cook said. “That’s a little frustrating to be that close, but you have to take care of business in the earlier innings to get the win, especially on the road.”
Foard grabbed an early one-run lead when lead-off hitter Kendall Settlemyre scored on a double by pitcher Mariah Chalk.
St. Stephens pitcher Julia Wakefield allowed only two hits Tuesday, and she struck out nine batters. Chalk had the double, and Bethany Pressley hit a single.
    Chalk struck out 10 batters.
Wakefield and Bianca Flores, also a senior at St. Stephens, both had two hits to lead the Lady Indians. Simmons said the hits by Flores lit the Lady Indians’ fire.
Flores had an opportunity to give her team the lead in the fourth inning. Foard center fielder Meredith Lutz chased down a sacrifice fly to right-center field and allowed Flores the time to score the run, but she failed to take advantage.
“I felt Bianca did a good job of trying to let that go, and the rest of the team did a good job of pulling her up to make sure that would not be the end of our game,” Davis said.
St. Stephens plays at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Newton-Conover. Foard plays at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Bunker Hill.
