I'm going with you TJ. My heart says Carolina or Clemson. My mind says Fullerton and Rice. My sleeper is Oregon State. I don't think that Tech has the pitching. I don't think that Georgia will be able to maintain those cardiac comebacks with this competition. Miami is good, but not as powerful as they have been in the past.

I'm rooting for Carolina, but Fullerton comes out of the top half of the bracket. Carolina gets back and eventually retires to Fullerton in the second game of the Championship of Bracket 1.

I'm rooting for Oregon State because even though they are the lone returnee to the CWS I feel like they are still labeled as the underdog being in the same bracket as past winners Georgia, Miami, and Rice. Rice comes out of this bracket playing the minimum number of games.

    Championship Fullerton vs. Rice.

I don't know who to pick, but I love Wayne Graham and the small school in the big time feel of Rice. They have two superstar arms in Degerman and St. Clair.

I think that Fullerton's staff does the best job of anyone in the CWS. Look out for Roemer and Gagnier. Turner and Dorn have won it before and there is nothing like experience.

    Fullerton in 3.

That's a very good summation, Andro..and probably the most accurate one. I like Oregon State for the same reasons. They get very little recognition because of the great conference they are in with UCLA, Arizona State and USC being perennial powerhouses....plus you have Pepperdine and San Diego State garnering the other attention.

As good as Fullerton is (and they have 2 great pitchers), their batters have not seen an Andrew Miller before. If his location is on, he's is the best pitcher in college. The key for Carolina is Daniel Bard. He seems to lack a little confidence; something that never was a concern before. BUT if he is on, he can be a very, very tough pitcher...which leaves Robert Woodard. The best thing I can say about Robert is that he is a big time pitcher. The greater the pressure, the better he responds.

If Carolina gets by Fullerton with Miller pitching...they will have taken a giant leap forward. The thing I like about UNC that I have never seen them have before is an attitude...a confidence. They do not play tight.

    I hope so

I hope you're right. I know that Fullerton did beat Scherzer in the Supers and he was the 11th selection overall to the Dbacks. But, if Miller is on... I agree. No one is going to beat him. The mistakes for him must be minimal in that game one matchup because Roemer won't give much up either. Like you said Carolina's defense can get sloppy at times. If it does it may not be up to him. One thing I will give Carolina the nod on as well is if they can get into Fullerton's pen. Carolina has the definite edge with Hovis, Danford, and Carnigan. Fullerton's coaching staff won't make a mistake.

I saw Woodard pitch against UVA this year. He is a monster. Would love to coach that kid. I hope he does get that shot to pitch in the bracket championship. Although, they may switch it up and go him game 2.

    All in all GO HEELS!

I would love to see Woodard pitch game two.

Does he still post here? I know he paid a visit or two when he first went to UNC. Would love to read his perspective on this season and the CWS - after they bring home the :trophy: of course.

I hear you guys, and I'm pulling for the Heels too,,,, but the Omaha atmosphere oftentimes affects teams different ways. Yet over the years the Fullerton teams always seem to rise to the occasion on this stage.

Miller will need his A-game for sure.

I'm sure he will, Braves...especially if YOU ask him.

Right now, though, it's safe to say that he's "drinking it all in"...extremely aware of what a special opportunity this is for him, his teammates, and the other participants. After last night's opening ceremony...after almost everyone had exited the stadium...he stood on the mound...lost in thought. It's pretty special.
