From a players standpoint: Play in a league and on a team you can pitch...I played in the CPL last summer after my freshman year, you play alot of games in a short period compared to the college seasons, there are almost no practices and you are on the road a ton. You don't have much time to left weights either, if you do, you are extremely tired from playing so many games in a row. As stated before you won't recieve much instruction unless you ask for it, the coaches are there just to make sure everyone gets their innings/at bats. If your coach hasn't placed you on a team by now, talk to him or try to get on a team youself....I would suggest trying the SCBL first, however, I do know some SCBL teams that require players to pay

    Summer baseball leagues

Great info specially from a players standpoint. After being in NC for the school year, he is ready to come home to Norfolk, VA and spend summer at home with family. Thing here is he wants to get some work in and just get some innings under his belt, considering as a freshman we think we won't pitch too many innings considering we have 4 senior pitchers.

Summer league sounds like he may be able to get 20-25 innings which is probably more than he'll get this upcoming freshman year.

many local leagues, such as legion, allow college freshman to participate. check with local high school coach on what may be available. in that part of VA. there's got to be something for his age.

"Murda" and "Steer" in A'boro this summer... can't wait to watch you guys there, as well as with the Bulldogs this spring!

It sounds like a lot of kids after their first year. I think he needs to find a mens league or play legion if he isn't aged out. I have no idea what is available in the Norfolk area but I'm sure you do. The main thing is he get to face some hitters and get comfortable on the mound. I don't think under the limitations you present that you can be overly concerned with the type of league.

Let me say to you that I have seen kids go play in the top reputed leagues in the country and come back not as good. I have also seen guys that told me they were going to go home and "work and work out" who came back noticeably better. It's about finding a routine and being disciplined enough to keep yourself on it.

He is aged out for the Legion League. Birthday was yesterday 12-25-89...about 6 days short of being eligible. We are trying to see if anyone knows anything about maybe the tidewater sumer developmental league. If anyone has a point of contact, just yell!

There is always the CVCL. I played in this league last year. They are expanding the league from 5 teams. I'm not sure how many there will be this coming year, but I do know there will be teams from the Central Virgina area. We played games against teams from the Tarheel league, but due to their poor scheduling, teams not showing up, and an all-around troublesome manager, all their teams were removed from our schedule and banned from playing against our league.

    the website is: www.cvscl.com

you can contact the man in charge, Dale Ijames, at: [email protected]

    Good Luck!
