I know this is not a forum for much other than College/ n.C softball, but I also know there are alot of experienced Moms and Dads on here. My Girl is 14 and a Pitcher, Progressing at a snails pace. Have told her that if she didn't want to pitch, that was no problem as she was very good at 7 of the other positions on the field. The kid will not stop and is determined to pitch and get better. Anyone else ever question their Girls ability, but keep going anyway just because she felt she could.. and then see the result of her hardwork pay off?

this is a forum to discuss any softball issues and its encouraged to benifit the players and parents. Just a few background questions, is your daughter taking private lessons? What pitches does she presently have(thrown on demand)? Is she learning any pitches now?

around this age (14)they become self-disiplcined, self motivated and become extremely determined while the progress she may be made isnt always an eye-catcher for most people or much less their parents. Your question about second guessing her ability to pitch, of course but look at the results of the forementioned progress she is making with her personal life issues!

note: my oldest DD is a senior at NC State, education major, student teaching in Johnston County and coaches there. She was cut her freshmen year of hs, no JV or nothing. She pitched but the coach then had her eyes on an upperclassman and just never even let her show her during the process. Cut and it killed her at first but she came home after that very difficult moment and said "daddy, lets go to GWU and pitch(its dark mind you)!" We pitched on the lit tennis court for over a hour and she and I knew she wanted to be a pitcher.
the coach wanted her as a Manager which she didnt hesitate to accept and eventually she got a chance to prove to herself and the team she would be a valuable asset to the them. Needless to say........she pitched from then on in a tuff 4A conference and turn down a few scholarships from D2 schools afterwards! Wow was mom and dad proud of those 5-6 years of yearround pitching, seeing it payoff!

Today, as mentioned she is completing her final semester, graduates this May and all this time she was on a full academic ride at a D1 institution............and never pitched one inning in college.
I couldnt be an proud of her and the hard work she has put into being the best she can be, so i suggest, contiune to support, encourage and just enjoy the short time you will have with her and the sport(s) they play!

Good luck with your DD(s) goals! :D

I have an 11yr old that says she wants to be a pitcher. But she doesn't seem to want to put the time in, on a regular basis, to do so. I've tried to stress to her that to be a good pitcher, she'd have to put extra time in. Her mother coaches high school softball, and she's with her at practice everyday, and has been for the past few years. But she'd rather play with her friends during this time, that she could be doing something to prepare. I'm not going to push her at all. As I see it, all I can do is let her know what SHE needs to do, and if she doesn't do it, then, well, it's on her, and I try not to take a "told ya so" attitude when it comes down to who is the pitcher on her team. She's going in her 3rd year playing, and has yet to be the pitcher, and she will not be so as long as she goes the way she's going. But she gets frustrated because she's not. Am I'm doing right, or any advice to give? And a quick question. Why do y'all call em DDs?

    follow up

well, a little honetsy must be a good thing. At her pitching lesson this week, she begun to come off the rubber 5+ feet, shoulders are back.. control a bit of a problem, but she worked very hard. Must still be some gas left I geuss. Much more focused and powerful. Thanks all for your experienced input.
