David Wright has resigned as the head coach at South Rowan. Michael Lowman will be the new coach for Post 185/146.

Here is the small little blurb in the Salisbury Post (fourth story; more is coming):
    http://www.salisburypost.com/Sports/032409-sports-briefs

In his three years at South Rowan, Coach Wright took the program to new heights. In '06, South beat a very talented Lexington program in an exciting five-game series. In both 07 and 08, South made the Area III semis before losing to powerhouse Randolph County. The 07 series was one of the best from the area in recent memory (along with 08 Burlington vs. Rowan); went 7 games and South was one out away from moving on to Garner for the State Tournament.

David Wright is clearly one of the best coaches in this area on the HS/Legion level in terms of managing a baseball game. His teams always execute the basic fundamentals well, and they're always well versed in bunting and hit/running. The South Rowan Legion program will certainly miss him. I wish him the best.

Michael Lowman, is he any relationship to Robert Lowman the A.D. at Rowan County?

Robert is his dad. Michael was a pretty good ball player himself, he should keep South competitive, and he has learned from Jim Gantt.

Tools, like Westboy said, Michael was a great ballplayer in Rowan County, and yes he is Bob's son. I believe Michael was coaching at High Point University at one time, and now he is assisting Jim Gantt at Catawba College. Michael is another young coach to get a legion job in the area, but he should do well.

Micheal was a couple of years behind me in school, but we lived close together growing up. He would come over to my house as a 5 year old and play baseball in the yard (and compete) with kids twice his age. I hardly ever picture him with out a bat in his hand. South is getting a coach who will be very dedicated to the program and the area. He is cut out of the same mold as Jim Gant, who I played for, in the respect that he is a quintessential "baseball man". Catawba College has to be very happy that their head coach and assistant coach has the area of Rowan County and Area III completely covered in the summers.
