    2013 DEREK SMITH - Marvin Ridge High School / South Charlotte Panthers has committed to serve his country; attend college and play baseball for Army. Derek will join the Black Knights following his senior season at Marvin Ridge.

    Congratulations to Derek and his parents Dave and Donna.

    Congratulations to the entire Smith family.

    I have watched Derek for a very long time. My son played with and against him since he was 6. West Point is getting a solid young man, who happens to be a real good ball player.

    Dave- The time spent throwing to your son in the cage for the last 12 years is a gift. An appointment to West Point is one heck of a bow.

    Nice to see the service academy influence in NC. Great to see these fine young men commit to a game they love and a country they love more.

    We salute you Mr. Smith - congratulations.
