    Kannapolis over Central Cabarrus

Yes, this was a very big win for the Kannapolis baseball program. It had been a long time since Kannapolis beat Central Cabarrus in HS baseball. Concerning the game, 3 Kannapolis pitchers combined to throw a one-hitter, led by Brett Bartles who pitched the first 5 innings. Bartles also led off the game with a homerun. Eddie Boger led the Kann offensive with 3 hits, followed by Ryan Query with 2 hits. Kannapolis defense looked great. This young Kann team continues to improve, and was CLEARLY the better team on this night.

West Rowan over Kannapolis 9-7 (Mon.March 10). The pitching of West probably proved to be the difference in this game over the young Wonders. Patrick Adams started this game for WR and Paul Link finished,,, and they both proved that WR is both experienced and talented on the mound. WR pitchers had 16 Wonder K's during this game which proved to be the difference, because Kann actually had chances, but were unable to move runners. Both teams ended up with 12 hits apiece. West was led by Patrick Adams, Wade Moore, S.Graham and Ryan Wilson with 2 hits apiece. Kannapolis was led by Garrett Sherrill with 3 hits, followed by Daniel Smith, Ryan Query and Andrew Mead with 2 hits apiece. Brett Bartles and Ryan Petty both homered for Kannapolis. Overall, this young Kannapolis team seems to be improving and gaining much confidence. Good Luck to both teams until we meet again...

Facchinei in a junior that is actually our number 3 behind Pridmore and Rose. Lol, a few more outings like this though and he might slide up with Rose on the shelf for a couple of weeks with some slight tendinitis. Facchinei is 6'2", 175 and appears to still be growing some. He may be a better 3rd baseman than a pitcher. Great hands. I look for him to be hitting 88 on the gun come May.
The stalker gun we use also seems to clock a little slower than the juggs. Any opinion from anyone on that?

    Hopewell at North Meck

The Hopewell Titans with Andrew Cruse (03) on the mound faced the young North Meck team behind Tom Porter (05). The game was tightly fought.

North Meck jumped on top in the bottom of the 1st inning, plating 3 runs behind some clutch hitting and great speed. Hopewell answered with a run in the 2nd. North added a run in the 4th inning for a 4-1 lead. In the top of the 6th inning, Hopewell plated 2 un-earned runs bringing the contest to a tight 4-3 matchup going into the 7th inning. Sam Pierce (05) relieved Tom Porter in the 7th and closed out the inning without allowing a hit on 1 BB.

Key hitting and defensive plays for North were by Dustin Skidmore (03) CF with a great catch in right-center and a key double in the first inning (2 for the game). Michael Cavasinni (05) used his speed to plate the first run and make several fine catches in LF. Tom Porter allowed only 4 hits in 6 innings and fielded his position very well.

Hopewell had strong hitting by Daniel Woodall (04) Catcher and Austin Haines (03) Outfielder.

    Game Talleys:
North Meck 8 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned runs
Hopewell 4 hits, 3 runs, 1 earned run

    Winning Pitcher: Tom Porter (3-0)
    Save: Sam Pierce(1-0), 2 Saves
    Losing Pitcher: Andrew Cruse (1-2)

    Records: NM 4-0, 1-0, Hopewell 2-2, 0-1

North Meck Vikings win 4 to 3

The North Mecklenberg Varsity team pulled a major upset tonight in beating the Hopewell Titans and their ace pitcher Andrew Cruse. The score 4 to 3. Tom Porter logged 6 strong innings for the win and Sam Pierce had a save with a one inning relief stunt. Dustin Skidmore was the hero for North in not only driving in 2 runs with 2 doubles but also made a late inning defensive gem in center field which probably saved the game. The Vikings now have a record of 4 and 0 and are surprising many people with their young talented team. :D

Mitchel Pridmore got the win for WH going all 7. Had 7 k's, 1 bb and gave up 3 hits. WH is now 3-0 and 1-0 in conference. Kevin Allen was 2/3 with an RBI, Pridmore was 2/4 with an RBI, and Kemper Booth was 2/3 with an RBI. WH played error free baseball.

West Rowan 4 North Iredell 2

West managed to score 4 runs in the top of the 7th and hold on to win their 2nd conference game in 2 days.

While North's Charles Taylor was in complete control for 6 innings, West starter Chris McDaniel depended on the help of his defense, who turned 2 rally killing double plays to keep the game close.

For 6 innings Taylor(RHP) pitched near perfect before running out of gas in the 7th. After giving up 2 walks he was lifted in favor of Steven Hancock who suffered control problems. After hitting a batter to load the bases, 1 run scored on a pass ball. He loaded the bases again by walking the the next batter and senior Shane Graham greeted him with a Texas League single that scored 2 runs. Wade Moore later drove in the 4th run with a sac fly to deep center field.

In the meantime North touched McDaniel(RHP) for 6 hits one being an RBI single to Bryan Corbett. After getting 2 outs in the 5th McDaniel was relieved by Paul Link who recorded the win, but not before Hancock tripled and later scored on an error.

    Lake Norman-7 over Kannapolis-4

What can I say but--- OUCH!!! This one hurts. Of course I should give Lake Norman credit,,, and I do. But Kannapolis came out after a big West Rowan game and we were about as flat FLAT FLAT as a team can be. I'm not recognizing any Kannapolis names in this one, because honestly the whole team just looked flat!!! The pitcher for Lake Norman was advertised to be good, but he did nothing special. We just hit one popup after another. Lake Norman scratched across one run in the first inning and this ugly game remained 1-0 forever. Then in the 4th inning, 2 different Kannapolis pitchers lost the strikezone and starting walking Wildcats. With so many baserunners, a dink here and a dink there, the score jumped to 7-0 after the 4th. Kannapolis really never hit the ball hard, except for a 2-run homerun by one of the sophomores in the 6th inning. Losing this game really hurts this young group we have in Wonderland. They will have to regroup FAST. We have East Meck today at home, and fortunately its a nonconference game, because right now we need to get our heads back on straight. You just can't lose conference games like these. Now let me go take a tylenol...

    Central Cabarrus-11,,, West Charlotte-0
Congratulations to Central pitcher Justin Ridenhour who threw a no-hitter in this game which was stopped by the mercy rule.

    East Rowan-6,,, Statesville-0
Jacob Cooper pitched a one-hitter to lead the Mustangs over the Greyhounds in the NPC opener for both teams yesterday.

    Ahsbrook 17, Burns 12

Ashbrook should have won this game going away, but credit the Bulldogs, "quit" ain't in their vocabulary!

Ashbrook Scored early and often behind the hitting of Wes McCall (4-4, 2hr, 2b, 5rbi), Sammy Asis (3-5, hr, 3rbi) and Kale Bradley (2-2, 3rbi). After 3 innings the score was 15-4, with Michael Maples on the mound for the Greenwave.

With a comfortable lead, Ashbrook went to Asis to start the 4th inning. Asis has not pitched so far this season and was rudely roughed up by the Bulldogs, including a gradslam (not sure of the batter). Steve Klenovic came in to close the inning with the score 15-9. Klenovic was touched for a Burns dinger in the 5th and eventual closer, Michael Bogaert also gave up a HR in the 7th. Ashbrook added a score in the 6th and 7th, giving the final score of 17-12.

Altogether, there were 29 runs, 30 hits and 6 HR in the game!

    Ashbrook 3-1
    Burns 1-2

    WP: Maples
    LP: Elliot
HR: (A) McCall 2, Asis; (B) Bridges, Walker, Beaver

Next game: 3/13 Ashbrook @ Kings Mtn. 4:30
