    East Meck???

i think east meck proved alot of the doubters wrong this week by winning two big games. They beat Providence 3-0 and got a stellar pitching performance for zach fulginiti. And tonight they beat South Meck 3-2, and again got a stellar pitching performance from ben buchanan, and got clutch pitching by craig burnham in the bottom innings. They play butler friday i think. so that should be a good game. i think these two big wins gave the team some confidence and momentum. keep up the good work fellas!

p.s. the charlotte observer needs to get right with some high school baseball coverage (i.e. articles, up-to-date scores, SWEET 16)

East Meck is playing great ball right now. They are getting great pitching, hitting and now their defense has tightened up. They have risen to the top and now becomes the team to beat in the SW4A.

Also, they are a classy team, led by a classy coach

    Ashbrook 13
    South Point 2

Ashbrook (6-1, 2-0) brought our it's sticks again last night. A good article in the Gazette today by Richard Walker, who by the way, attended the entire ballgame and stayed for interviews.

To summarize, Coach Parks says this is the "best offensive club he's had in 12 years". Even better than when Wes Helms was leading the ballclub. 1-9 can hit the ball and 7 can hit it out. Plus there is good depth on the bench. This about a club that only has one senior starter. Ashbrook's current run production is 11.4 runs per game. The state record for a season is 11.6 by St. Paul's in 1991. St. Paul scored 330 runs in 28 games.

Last night the 8,9, and lead-off hiiters provided the juice. Sammy Asis, jr., hit his third HR of the year. Michael Bogaert, so., and Josh Duncan, so., both had two hits. All this with Wes McCall falling into a "slump" going 0/2 with 2 bbs. This ended McCall's 10 consecutive hit streak and dropped his season avg. to .682.
At last check, Ashbrook had 6 players hitting over .350.

McCall picked up his fourth win of the season (4-0) and was not very pretty in doing it, giving up 2 runs, on 5 hits, 4bb, 2 hbp and 8k's. The defense however was stellar, led by Drew Martin, so., who was playing second last night, and Asis in CF.

This afternoon, North Meck visits Ashbrook for an old Mega 7 4A rematch. These two young teams should play a great game. Game time 7:00.

West Henderson 12, East Henderson 2

A little background 1st. This was a game that was looked forward to with a lot of local interest as these 2 cross town rivals hadn't played in 2 years. These kids had grown up together and and played with and against each other since pee wee leagues. The 2 teams comprised of 10 seniors, 5 on each team, that had gone to the Babe Ruth World Series (placing 4th) as 12 yr olds. Needless to say it was a great atmosphere with a great crowd.
    East Henderson
    0-0-0-1-1 2 runs, 5 hits, 1 error
    West Henderson
    3-0-0-7-2 12 runs, 11 hits, 0 errors
    WP Mike Facchinei (3-0) 11k's, 2 ER, 5 hits, 2 BB
    LP Shawn Gibson 2 k's, 6 ER, 6 hits, 7 BB

    1st inning:
East Henderson - Facchinei had 3 k's wrapped around a walk to Gibson and a single by Chris Romeo.
West henderson - A walk to Kevin Allen to lead off the game, then back to back singles from Facchinei and Mitchel Pridmore to score Allen. A sacrifice fly from Kemper Booth to score Facchinei. Gibson had 2 more walks this inning with Pridmore scoring on a wild pitch.
    2nd inning:
East Henderson - Facchinei struck out the side.
West henderson - Allen walked this inning and Facchinei moved him to 3rd with a single with 1 out. As Facchinei was stealing 2nd Allen broke for home and was caught at the plate when the SS cut the throw. Note: Tampa Bay scout clocked Allen 2.45 from 3rd to home on this play.
    3rd inning:
East Henderson - Facchinei struck out the 1st 2 batters then there was a gounrd out to 3rd.
West Henderson - Gibson struck out 2 this inning around a single from Curtis Frisbee.
    4th Inning:
East Henderson - Got the bats going a little scoring a run on 2 hits and a BB. Gibson and Teague Halford had the hits.
West Henderson - Rocky Guthrie started off the inning with a double. Then Gibson struggled a little walking 3 in a row to leave bases loaded for Pridmore who hit a grand slam. EH changed pitchers at this point bringing in Hill. Hill hit Booth who moved to 2nd on a past ball. Josh Andrews moved him to 3rd with a gound ball to the right side then Frisbee walked. Frisbee was caught stealing before Cory Rose hit a 2 run HR.
    5 inning:
East Henderson - Hill led off with a double. Facchinei struck out the next batter before giving up another double to Clay Byrd. Gibson k'd and Romeo popped up to end the inning.
    West Henderson -
Allen and Facchinei had single to start the inning. Pridmore had a Sac fly to score Allen. Andrews had a single to move Facchinei into scoring postition where Frisbee drove him in with a single to end the game.

Facchinei is having a break out year. This junior P/3B is now 3-0 going 15 innings, with 34 k's, 8 hits and 3 walks, giving up 2 ER. Hit 88 on the striker gun in this game with a nasty 12-6 curve ball. He is also 7-7 in the last 2 games at the plate. Kevin Allen-OF, Curtis Frisbee-1B/OF, and Brooks Owenby P/3B, (3 unsigned seniors) are hitting .632, .556, and .524 respectively through 7 games. Pridmore, Booth, and Rose had already signed.

Zack Rosenbaum made the move up from JV to Varsity last week and had his first 2 outings with North Meck.

He came in to relieve Sam Pierce in the 4-3 victory over Harding, picking up his first save on tuesday. He got his first start thursday against West Charlotte.

The lanky righty was in control of all of his pitches and the game for the entire evening. He worked 6 smooth innings and settled in very nicely on the mound. In his 6 innings of work, he struck out 9, walked 2, allowed 2 hits and 1 earned run. Great outing for the young sophomore. He looks to be the last piece of the puzzle for this season on the mound for the Vikings and is a most welcome addition to the team.

Even without Rosenbaum on JV the past 2 weeks, the JV team remains undefeated. The next 2 years looks VERY good for North Meck baseball.

    West Rowan 2 Mooresville 0

The story for this game was pitching, pitching, pitching, and 2 HR.

Both Paul Link(WR) and Tyler Lackey(Moores) pitched superbly, nearly matching each other inning after inning until the 6th when Lackey caught a little too much of the plate and West 3rd baseman Seth Waller drilled it over the left field fence. Lackey made only one other mistake when he got a change up up and in to West freshman Wade Moore, in the 7th, who promptly rainbowed it down the right field line and over the fence just fair. Bryan Graham had 2 hits.
